Colts Picks - Your thoughts?

You know, I keep hearing this, but is he really?

He's walking into a MUCH tougher division on a team that before it traded up was still drafting 6th overall. Yeah, I know the Colts gutted their team but is anyone looking at the Redskins as an NFL powerhouse?

If the "Luck/RG3" debate didn't exist would anyone really be trying to portray the Redskins as a good team? I know I wouldn't. Not to mention that in order to get RG3, they had to trade away 2 first round picks plus some. That seems to get overlooked as well.

Anyway, this might just be me wearing blue colored glasses, but I'm not seeing the talent disparity between the two teams that everyone seems to be.

I don't buy it either....why is RGIII better, cause he is more exciting? I always heard Vick was exciting too, not that I am comparing the two....I mean who knows, but RGIII kinda busted onto the scene pretty late the newness of the new girlfriend is still there with people and the media....Luck has been there quite a while so they got tired of bragging on him so you have to start tearing him down, thats all that is left.

I'm trying very hard to be fair about this. But I really just don't see the Redskins as being the team people are building them up to be.

I think it's because the skins aren't in total re-build like us & have a vet coaching staff so every player isn't learning a new system.

I did notice that. Jaric likes.

Personally, I'm not seeing bringing back the same coaching staff that went 5-11 last year as a discussion ending positive. I get the arguement, that they have more "stability" than we might appear to, but is that really true? How long do you think Shanahan gets before Dan Snyder gets impatient and tries to sign another has been to take over the coaching position?

Pagano and our staff on the other get are also assured at least 3 years to get things going and IMO are in a much better position to do so than the Redskins are. Not to mention that his twitter antics aside, I'm seeing Jim Irsay as a much more stable owner than Dan Snyder is.

Personally, I don't think RG3 is anywhere near as NFL ready as Luck is, despite a marginally (at best) surrounding cast. We'll see though. REALLY looking forward to the preseason.

Well, the experts probably think that RGIII will have a better year as a rookie because the Redskins have more proven weapons on offense. The Colts basically have only Reggie Wayne at WR. Austin Collie has contributed in the past, but he has major concussion red flags. The Redskins have Garcon, Gaffney, Moss. None of the guys is as good as Wayne, but overall they are the better, deeper group of receivers.

I would also give the edge at tight end to the Skins right now. Fred Davis was one of the best receiving tight ends last season, there as Fleener and Allen are unproven rookies.

At RB, both teams look pretty even to me right now. The Colts have Brown and Carter, but neither is pretty good. They added Vick Ballard in the draft, a tough runner from the SEC. The Redskins have Helu, Torrain and Royster. Non of them set the world on fire either, but Helu seems to have some upside. He had over a 1000 yards as a rookie if you combine rushing & receiving yards.

Of course this is all hypothetical.

I really can't argue with any of this as I think it's a pretty fair assessment. Also to clarify, when I talk about the lack of (IMO) a talent gap that really speaks to more how I see the Redskins than I do the Colts. I just don't think they're that good. The might be on paper better than the Colts, but I don't think it's by that much. Again, they did go 5-11 last year. I like Pierre Garcon, but unless he clears up his inconsistancy issues, he's never going to be an elite reciever. He's good and can make plays, but he has never shown he can consistantly do so.

I also think if Shanahanananan decides to have RG3 running around everywhere (which he does like to do...) he's going to get him hurt. I hope not, because by all accounts RG3 is a solid guy an I hate seeing bad things happen to good people, but I'd be holding my breath everytime he scrambles.

Also this. I know they would never admit it (nor should they) but is anyone going to argue that if the Skins were picking first they would have taken RG3?

The only possible way I listen to that argument is because Shanahan does like getting QBs outside the pocket, and RG is a little more athletic than Luck is.

An assessment of the colts draft is what the thread is about. Those are my thoughts on the matter.

And there is a difference between a veteran qb being able to deal with pressure compared to a noob or rookie qb. If you cant understand that, then there's nothing else i can say.....

The Patriots also threw the ball 78 times more than the Colts. That are 78 more opportunities for opposing defenses to sack the quarterback.
