Average NFL game contains 11 minutes of action

Only 11 minutes! I have to admit, though, I loved watching the whole Jets/Charger game. Even though it must have had only 11 minutes of action! Sounds like one of my dates, after a night of dancing......  Here's the article: The Wall Street Journal points out that in football, unlike in most sports, the clock runs for long stretches while nothing is happening. So The Journal broke down some telecasts to find out how much football is actually played during an NFL game: "The average amount of time the ball is in play on the field during an NFL game is about 11 minutes. In other words, if you tally up everything that happens between the time the ball is snapped and the play is whistled dead by the officials, there's barely enough time to prepare a hard-boiled egg. In fact, the average telecast devotes 56% more time to showing replays.'' "The ratio of inaction to action is approximately 10 to 1.'' Something to think about as you're sitting on the couch next Sunday. |

This ignores how much Football is like a game of chess. It's as much about the strategy as the 'action'. I haven't read the article so it might actually mention that...
