Post High honor for WR Wes Welker

While players often talk about the honor of being selected to the Pro Bowl, being named an All-Pro is considered a notch above because there are fewer spots on the team and it isn't divided by conference.

Along those lines, the Associated Press named its All-Pro team today and receiver Wes Welker made the cut. With only two receiver spots on the team, Welker earned the nod along with Texans receiver Andre Johnson.

Welker led the NFL with 123 receptions despite missing almost three full games. While many of his catches came close to the line of scrimmage, and thus were almost run-type plays, his ability to make positive yardage after the catch was a big part of the Patriots' offense. Welker finished second in the NFL in yards after the catch, according to ESPN Stats & Information tracking.

Welker was the lone Patriots player chosen to the All-Pro team, which is selected by a panel of 50 sportswriters.

Middie is gonna be PISSED.

In all seriousness, Welker was the only All Pro on the Pats this year in my book, and I'm glad he made it.

Vollmer will be there soon enough.

Wes should have been an MVP candidate, the Pats don't make the playoffs without him.

Wes got a LOT of positive press from the big time pre game shows this year. AS HE SHOULD HAVE! But honestly this had to help his chances. I agree with DS, Wes was the only All Pro level player we had this year. Vollmer WILL be there barring injury.

Why, I could care less about awards. Although this is great for welker, might be the only slot recevier to win this. By the way, brady has only been All-Pro once in his career.

I would guess that the all pro takes 2 DTs and 2 DEs, and isn't factoring in the best "nose" tackle per se...and on that criteria, the case could be made for guys like Ngata, the Williamses* etc. I'm not saying they're definitely better, but I can see the case being made.

In fairness, Mankins was named to the second team.
