If Pats Make the Playoffs, how is Cassel not the MVP?

I mean, really.

The Pats have suffered a ton of injuries on both sides of the ball, and they are 10-5 and have a QB who is consistently playing great ball.

That he didn't make the pro bowl is a joke.

But no one has been more valuable to his team in the NFL. No one.

Who's even close?

Don't tell me Peyton Manning is. The guy got two wins through the help of the Supreme Being, and has played for a team that has had many fewer injuries than the Pats.

If the Pats don't get help and get in, then I take it all back.

I'm so tired of hearing about Manning for MVP.

Matt has done amazing. I was definitly not one of his biggest supporters at the start of the season. I thought that we were doomed. However, he has proved me wrong and I couldn't be happier! Considering the injuries to the team, the fact that he hadn't started in forever, and we could possibly be 11-5 and win the division, that is an amazing accomplishment and he deserves MVP.

I would tend to say he isn't the MVP. I would instead argue that there's no way BB isn't COY for going 11-5 with all of this adversity.

In all seriousness, Cassel would be on my shortlist. I'd like to put in a good word for the forgotten man though, Stephen Gostkowski, leading the league in points.

Now there has to be some candidates from the Steelers or Titans, but I can't personally name him. Or from the Giants or Panthers.

My nominees would be, in no particular order, Cassel, Pennington, Adrian Peterson, Warner (I'll give him a mulligan for today), Gostkowski, and Ronnie Brown. I think I would pick Peterson or Ronnie Brown. Actually Ronnie Brown. But I'm sure I must have forgotten some players, especially defensive players. I'll add Wesley Welker into the mix.

So I'd actually go with Ronnie Brown. But come on, Cassel has been pretty darned good.

I don't think he can be MVP. I look at it this way. MVP to me is the guy who, without him, the team is much worse. Cassel has been great this year. Better than anyone, even the most optimistic like myself, expected. But the fact of the matter is, without him and with Brady, we aren't fighting for the playoffs, we're fighting for home field. Fair or not, that's the comparison. I don't know who the MVP is. I know it sure as hell isn't Manning, he was horrendous and cost his squad big time in the early season. His candidacy and the media pushing for him to win is both puzzling and sickening.

THe Brady point is a red herring.

With this team and under these circumstances, no one has been more important to his team than Matt. Again, tell me who has been more important to success than Matt.

Gdam, the Giants just won the damn toss. Puke

I think Wes helped get Matt where he is today. He's equally as valuable.

Yeah, Wes is a close to MVP. But the QB is in on every play, and Matt made a lot of key plays this year that didn't involve Wes. Wes made some without Matt, but not nearly as many.

Good point, Musie.

I'm just feeling a lot of love toward Matt right now, and his pro bowl snub pisses me off. Not that I care about the pro bowl per se.

You know, Peyton Manning might have to take the pro-bowl off, to heal his wounds, whatever they may be.....and there you go, Cassel might make the pro-bowl as an injury-replacement...

I think, much like the Pro Bowl, Cassel deserves to be mentioned, especially the way he's come on as of late. But here's who I think the top 5 will end up being, in no particular order:

1) Peyton Manning
2) Eli Manning
3) Kurt Warner
4) Matt Ryan
5) Chad Pennington. Yes, THAT Chad Pennington. I think voters look at him rather than Ronnie Brown.

Peterson fumbled any chance at the MVP away today, and a name that should be mentioned is John Abraham.

And while I will admit BB has done what could be considered his best coaching job ever, he finishes a distant third behind Sparano and Mike Smith in Atlanta. To do what those two have done in a single season is nothing short of miraculous.
