How does a man convicted of seven counts of corruption get reelected?

And who is going to be the interim senator until a new one can be voted in? (I believe Alaska has a special system in place to avoid nepotism since someone put his daughter in senate in 2004)

Perhaps the craziest part of this (besides him actually getting elected, that is) is that they had to have a special hearing in Alaska to decide whether or not Stevens could actually vote. Convicted felons aren't banned from holding office, but are banned from voting in many states, of course.

So, as a convicted felon of a certain type of crime (bribery being one of them), he's ineligible to vote, but they determined he's not actually "convicted" until sentencing in February.

Maybe they are waiting for an appeal? I don't know. I just think it's nuts that a guy who is convicted of abusing his power gets re-elected. I found out earlier (after I started the thread) that there is a special law in place in Alaska to prevent the governor from just electing a successor in the event that the senator is expelled from office.
