What do you think of Stop & Shop’s new logo?

http://www.mediapost.com/publication...&art_aid=89091

As shoppers across the U.S. scramble to save money, grocery store chains are losing market share to supercenters and warehouse clubs. But Stop & Shop and Giant are fighting back, introducing a new logo, additional products, updated store décor and a handful of high-tech innovations designed to help shoppers feel they're managing their grocery budgets better.
Consumers got their first look at the changes at the Giant store in Bethesda, Md., this week, but the changes will roll out fully at both chains, owned by Dutch retailing giant Ahold, over the next year.
Among the new introductions are expanded private label offerings, an increased number of fresh prepared foods, including soups, new fresh-flavored rotisserie chickens and more hot and cold side dishes. The store will also offer shoppers a handheld scanner device they can use throughout the store that checks prices, keeps a running total, and generates brand-related coupons for products as they shop. The company is also making a bigger investment in convenience: A Delivision kiosk allows shoppers to place deli orders when they enter the store, so they don't have to wait as long on line.
A new ad campaign promoting the changes launched over the weekend with TV and radio ads, introducing the new logo and brand campaign, and those ads, as well as spots for specific promotions, will continue throughout the remainder of the year, says a Stop & Shop spokesperson. Among them: a contest offering a year's worth of free groceries. The ads are from Mullen Advertising in Boston; the spokesperson declined to disclose a budget.
As part of the updates, the company is also testing a family friendly lane. In many stores, that simply means that the checkout lane is tabloid and candy free and offers healthy snacks such as yogurt, animal crackers and bottled water.
The company describes the changes as "a further step in Ahold's global strategy to create powerful local consumer brands," adding that it shows the company is "committed to providing great food and meal solutions at low prices everyday."
Stop & Shop, based in Quincy, Mass., has stores throughout New England. Giant, based in Landover, Md., has stores in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. Ahold also owns Peapod, the largest Internet grocer in the U.S.

I love it. I think it looks fresh. I think it was Selame Design/Brand Equity (1995) that did the old one. I think that one communicated stopping to shop more with the traffic light. Wonder who designed this one? Other supermarkets are doing more sales and stocking differently to save money and pass on savings.

Web Page Looks nice on their web page too. It has a fresh produce feel.

The days of one stop shopping at one store are over.

We go to BJ's for bulk items and other stuff we use on a regular basis, Stop & Shop, Shaw's and PriceRite. The latter, although a bare bones place, has some decent produce and the prices are definitely cheaper that the others.

I've been splitting up my grocery shopping. with 3 places now. The produce is nearly 30% cheaper at a local farmer's stand on the way to the supermarket. I now have some fresh herbs growing in pots instead of paying $3 for a small bag, using two tablespoons and watching the rest rot. One pot of basil for $2.99 and I use it repeatedly and have the sun for it to do well. Then I do my meats and misc at the supermarket and then the organic market, which I've cut down on too. I just can't spend $5 for a head of fresh broccoli for awhile anyhow. But the supermarket carries more organic and it's prices are better than the Organic supermarket now. The farmer's market stuff rots fast out in the heat here though so I go nearly daily....like a European.

I'm gonna buy 2 earth boxes and grow more food though too.

Is it true that some of the frozen stuff BJ’s sells also goes to restaurants? It’s that high in quality

I know of at least 4 area bars that get a lot of stuff at BJ's. Many catering tucks in the area buys their soda, candy and others stuff there, also.

and, I know for a fact that one "high end" place uses certain frozen items in their appetizers.

According to Mercolo even the high end places use the same frozen items and charge a higher price.

I am a Frys and Trader Joes exclusively not. Costco can kiss my ass with their 108 membership and their food not being a discount at all.

No, but had I see the logo beforehand I'd have driven back east to grocery shop. That's how much that logo moved me.
