The Dark Knight Discussion (Spoilers!)
OK, so if you're in here, you've seen the dark knight, quite possibly now my favorite movie EVER, even better then...and I hate to say it, Star Wars.
Anyway, I was just so blown away by Heath Ledgers performance. The way how the movie went along and you had no idea when or where he was gonna pop up and what he was gonna do just kept me on the edge of my seat the whole movie. This is how the Joker should be portrayed and Ledger emulated him to a freakin Tee. Honestly, I can' t think of another movie that has left such an impression on me as this one, i'm freaking out over here. The part where he says 'im going to make this pencil dissapear' and when he shoves that guys face into it kind of sets the tone for the kind of person the Joker is, and it was hilarious to boot. Now, as great as ledger was, i thought Aaron Eckhart (harvey dent) was just as great. His transformation to two-face was amazing, and his disfigured face made me cringe the first time i saw it. Only thing that sucks is that they killed him off at the end, I would have loved to see two-face be the main villain in the next movie but i guess that won't happen. I loved how there is a constant moral struggle going on in this movie. Batman is continually put in situations where he must choose whether or not what he's doing is morally right, or how he should go about doing his job. The part with the two boats and the convicts on one and the civilians on the other is also just amazing, touching and totally unexpectable. Anyway, does anyone else agree with me how great this movie is? I can't get enough of it, it should easily win picture of the year and ledger should win performance of the year, IMO. thoughts? |

The transformation into two-face was too much of a Terminator adaptation.
The movie was f*ckin' awesome on the flip ![]() |

The last time I came out of a movie just stunned at such a fantastic individual performance such as Ledger's was Anthony Hopkins' in "Silence of the Lambs". "Dark Knight" may be one of the best movies I've ever seen (and Im far from a Batman or SciFi geek). Movie wise, it was close to perfect in every aspect.

A couple of things I noticed, though, that I didn't get. First, how/why was Cillian Murphy (the villain from the Batman Begins movie) one of the Batman imposters in the early scenes?
Also, Batman drops Eric Roberts (the mafia boss) off a building and breaks his legs. The next time we see Roberts, he is walking fine. Huh? |

Saw it yesterday, Ledger was incredible, if you notice, they didn't kill him off at the end, so I'm guessing that they were thinking of bringing him back (moot point now).
A few tidbits I noticed.... Gordon's wife's name was Barbara, but no daughter neamed Barbara (yet). Somehow the Joker knew that Wayne was Batman (said that he saw him making the moves on Rachel). I'm quite sure that Mrs. Cruise will resent abandoning the Rachel role, I thought that Gyllanwhatever, looked OLD!!! They didn't even give a hint about the next movie (unless Batman Begins, when Gordon gives him the Joker card). I loved how the Batbike came out of the Prowler. I can only hope that Catwoman is somewhere in the future. |

That was the best movie I have ever witnessed. It put away Xmen, Spiderman, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings.....everything.
I really resented not seeing Batman Begins in the theaters....But I never liked any of the other batmans before this one. Rented it several months after it had been out and thought the movie was amazing. I love Nolan's work so much. I really have liked what DC and Marvel have been doing. Not just making movies to sell merchandise, but making extraordinary films that attract people from all groups and cultures. What Nolan is doing to this Batman series is amazing. He is giving everyone hope. He is showing Batman as being so human and the people that are trying to destroy the city as being human, that everyone of us can relate to him. I cannot wait to see what will be the story of the third one...I don't really know where it can be taken from here since other villians have been used in other batmans. |

The original Barbara Gordon was introduced as a niece to James Gordon and not his daughter. In the 60's, when the character was revived (to get women interested in the TV Batman show), then did she become the daughter of James Gordon.
Joker's comments about Batman and Rachel more than likely had to do with the Dent fundraiser and the dialog they had prior to dropping her out the window than knowing the identity of Batman. There might have been a hint dropped about the next movie (if there was one). When Bruce Wayne went to pick up Batman's new uniform, he asked Lucius Fox if the suit would stop a dog. Fox replied that that it would stop a cat. Also, there is a few internet rumors that former Wayne Industries employee Reiss may become the Mad Hatter or even a few said the Riddler. I doubt it. This series of movies has already shown itself to take villains not used in previous set (Ras 'al Ghul, Scarecrow, and Victor Zsasz) and look for more of that with a few of the golden oldies thrown in. Catwoman maybe the next logical choice now that Rachael Dawes is dead, giving Bruce/Batman a love interest. However, with CGI technology so far in advance, don't be too surprised to see Clayface or Killer Croc. |

In terms of the Mad Hatter, I read a rumor yesterday that it's quite possible that character may evolve from one of the Joker's minions. More specifically, the guy in the ambulance with Harvey Dent who was wearing the "Rachel Dawes" nametag.
Again, probably just an internet rumor but it would not be illogical since these Nolan films have done a great job spawning the evolution of the major characters in these movies. |

I agree with Dawson (yuck). This movie was better than any of the original Star Wars movies. Not even close.

Never before have I gone into a movie with the expectations that I had for The Dark Knight, and had them surpassed in every way (possibly, with 300) I know this isn't the type of movie that wins awards, but if the acadamy does not give Heath Ledger an award for this, they will have proved, once and for all, that those awards have nothing to do with actual acting. My god he was brilliant. That's the only word that can describe it. Brilliant. Also, anyone who wants to attempt to say that Micheal Keaton was the best Batman...sorry you're wrong. That discussion is now over. There is Bale, and the rest. Keaton did a good job, and was easily the best of the previous Batmans. But no one has even come close to accurately portraying batman as he should be until Bale. Also, whoever wrote that screenplay should win an award. Brilliant writing. Everything about this movie was just...Brilliant. Now, about that part I qouted. I disagree. There is so much potential for the Riddler, it's not even funny. And I am not talking about Jim Carey Riddler. He was having way too much fun (in a non evil way) Not that the Mad Hatter wouldn't be cool, I just think the Riddler could be amazing. The other Villian I would LOVE to see, is Bane. The only problem with Bane, is that he had very little depth too him. However, he is physically easily Batman's equal. And while that would make for a great story, I don't believe it would be enough to carry the film without a more phycological villian as a foil. |

It's better than Star Wars.
But not better than Empire Strikes Back ;) Seriously, I need to let a movie digest before I can assign it a numbered rank. But this is up there. Definitely top 10 and likely top 5. Again... still digesting. |
