What can we come to expect out of Merriweather?

After completing his rookie season, this brotha outta Miami saw limited playing time in the beginning / middle portions of the season but saw more play near the end and even found some time on the field during the playoffs.

I think going into his rookie season he proved that he could flat out knock people to their asses but had some incompetencies adjusting to NFL play in respects of playing his position correctly. He also showed that hes quite capable of dropping the ball.

In his second season, I'm guessing we'll see some more playing time from him this upcoming season. Should we be expecting bigger and better things from this youngster his sophmore year? It seems basic to me although I know football is a complex, intricately sophisticated sport (and much more). Be in the right place and hit people, hard and he will be successful.

I hope to see steps from him this year in comparison to last and hope he can be a major contribution to the team.

Hopefully his time with the jugs machine (etc) helps with his hands. Otherwise just continued development. I liked how he was progressing last season.

He can hit.

Aside from that, I haven't seen much that will leave me with warm fuzzy feelings concering the abilities of our safeties once Rodney retires.

I agree. He was in the right place at the right time more and more as the year went on which tells me he is learning the system and worked hard at film study. As long has he can soften his hands I think he will KICK ASS in a big way this year.

I hope someone is giving him just this advice, or he knows it on his own.

The guy dropped some easy picks, including one in Baltimore just before the Hail Mary pass was caught and the receiver was stopped on the one yard line.

Contrary to popular opinion, I saw a lot of promise in our young safety as the season progressed. Clearly, at the beginning of the season he seemed a bit lost. But as the season wore on, he found himself on the field more often. And it was clear that this time on the field was earned. He was increasingly in position to make plays frequently at the end of the season. He hits like a hammer, and seems to have the skill set...

But he does have hands of steel. (clay?)

So did A$ante when he was a rook.

The hands will soften and the skills will continue to develop. I kinda like how this kid's future looks.

He looks like a 5th or 6th defensive back to me. But they did play him alot near the end last year. He must have still had his energy.

Time will tell.

He's no Rodney Harrison or Michael Haynes. But he can contribute.

I like Merriweather. He got better as the season went along, and they brought him along slowly. Sure, he dropped a few INTs, but as mentioned previously in the thread, so did Asante. I am not giving up on him yet. He's versatile and will have another year under his belt. I'm willing to be patient with the guy and am confident that he will be better in 2008. I really don't think that he was that bad in his rookie season. Definitely an upgrade over Geno, most definitely.
