A loooooong time ago, I worked with a company that made software for the blind - so they could "read" websites, emails, and such by having it read to them, and they could dictate emails, etc... It was in the early days of the web... now with the graphics-heavy sites, I can only imagine what the software is like... but it was a long timae ago, so I'm sure stuff like that is waaaay better now

I've always felt bad for the blind but now I have a whole new outlook for them and it's a lot worse than it was before this thread.

The least these guys could do is get one of those 400 LB women with the sexy voices from one of those 1-900-Nerd-Girl lines to narrate.

Well, way back then, they had this small service they wrote that was always running in memory that basically whenever the mouse hovered over a link, it "read" it. It was also on their desktop, so if they hovered over the Internet Explorer icon, it would say "Internet Explorer"... There was a lot of voice activation stuff, too... the Voice Command thing.... It was an interesting time, and I only worked on a small part of it... but I had the joy of doing some of the usability testing, so I would be sitting in this dark apartment with a blind dude watching him use it, filming it, taking notes, etc...
