Crennel flips coin to pick his starting QB

Nothing against Romeo, and it was only for a preseason game after all, but the headline made me do a double take when it was on the NFLN ticker while I was watching our game yesterday.

Rookie Brady Quinn stood with a clipboard and studied Cleveland's playbook during his first NFL preseason game, a 16-12 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Quinn, a first-round draft pick, missed 12 days of training camp in a contract holdout before signing a five-year, $20 million contract on Wednesday. His absence probably cost Quinn any chance of starting the Sept. 9 season opener against Pittsburgh, but unless Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson steps up, it may not be long before the former Notre Dame star is calling signals.

For now, Quinn's listed behind Frye, Anderson and even Ken Dorsey on the Browns' depth chart, which could undergo several revisions in the months ahead.

Browns fans already have their favorite as chants of "Bra-dy, Bra-dy," broke out in the fourth quarter after the Chiefs sacked Dorsey in the end zone for a safety. Quinn never got in, but should play next week against Detroit.

With Frye and Anderson deadlocked so far in training camp, Browns coach Romeo Crennel picked his starter with a pregame coin flip.

Frye won the toss and took Cleveland's first snap. It wasn't a pretty one.

He forced a pass over the middle intended for tight end Kellen Winslow that was nearly picked off by Chiefs linebacker Donnie Edwards. After a Kansas City turnover, Frye drove the Browns to get in place for a 27-yard field goal.

I just watched the rerun on NFL and Romeo has his defensive side and special teams looking pretty good ! They were swarming around the ball even the 3rd string and rookies late in the game and got several big plays. If he can get his offense to produce something he'll have a good year.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the preseason they may have looked good but that doesn't always play out in the regular season. The Colts were 0-4 in the preseason last year.

I agree with the theme why would you flip a coin? Man up and pick someone and if you're going to flip a coin don't tell anyone.
