Walt Disney Pictures' INVINCIBLE

Disney contacted me to promote this film on the site. Of course they didn't offer anything accept the actual trailers, etc....

But I thought I would mention it anyway as it looks like a good flick:

From the studio that brought you "The Rookie" and "Remember The Titans" comes INVINCIBLE, inspired by the true story of Vince Papale (MARK WAHLBERG), a man with nothing to lose who ignored the staggering odds and made his dream come true. When the coach (GREG KINNEAR) of Papale's beloved hometown football team hosted an unprecedented open tryout, the public consensus was that it was a waste of time -- no one good enough to play professional football was going to be found this way. Certainly no one like Papale -- a down-on-his-luck, 30 year-old, substitute teacher and part-time bartender who never even played college football. But against these odds, Papale made the team and soon found himself living every fan's fantasy -- moving from his cheap seats in the upper deck to standing on the field as a professional football player.

One liner: Inspired by the true story of Vince Papale, a down-on-his-luck teacher and part-time bartender lives every fan’s fantasy of moving from the stands to the field when he makes it onto his hometown’s professional football team during an open tryout.

Here is a 480 x 200 quicktime of the trailer.

If anyone is interested in other sizes or other formats, they sent me a crapload of links, so let me know.

Vince Papale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Date of birth February 9, 1946
Place of birth Glenolden, Pennsylvania
Position(s) WR
College St. Joseph's University

Team(s) - 1976-1978 Philadelphia Eagles

Vincent Francis Papale (born February 9, 1946 in Glenolden, Pennsylvania) is a former professional American football player. He holds the record as the oldest rookie non-kicker to play in the NFL. He played three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Papale played just one year of high-school football and had no college football experience. He graduated from Philadelphia's Saint Joseph's University, which did not have a football team. At age 30, while bartending and substitute-teaching at Interboro High School, Papale joined the former World Football League team, the Philadelphia Bell, as a wide receiver. His performance with them earned him a meeting with Coach Dick Vermeil after general manager Jim Murray got him an invitation.

Wahlberg, as Papale, during filming of Invincible, a film focusing on Papale's football career.Papale, at 6' 2" (1.88 m), and 195 pounds (88.5 kg), eventually made the team and played wide receiver and special teams for the Eagles from 1976 through 1978. During that time, he played in 41 of 48 regular season games, recording 2 fumble recoveries and 1 reception for 15 yards.

Papale, who earned the nickname "Rocky" when playing with the Eagles, will be featured in the Disney movie Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg, to be released August 25, 2006.

Diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2001, Papale has since overcome the disease and has become a spokesman encouraging people to get regular check-ups.

Currently, Papale is the regional director of marketing and senior account executive for higher-education marketing at Sallie Mae. He resides in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, with his wife Janet and two children, Gabriella (12) and Vincent (7).

I don't like a lot of sports movies because they are too predictable, but this one looks pretty good.

A truly great and inspiring story. Hopefully they don't **** it up, but from what I have seen, it looks great. I've been a closet eagles fan since I was a little kid (except for Feb 05) so I am really looking forward to seeing this.

Sure, the real estate chick gets assclowned immediately, but Disney gets you to pimp for them.

What amazes me about this movie is that with all the reading I've done about the history of pro football, I had never heard of this guy or his story until I saw the trailer when we went to see Superman Returns.

I may just go see this in the theater; have to see what the wife says I guess. If not it will definitely be added to my Netflix queue as soon as it's out.

One thing I like about it is the Giants' classic old uniforms. I HATE the unis the Giants wear now.

FWIW, I saw this exact same post on the Colts forum (posted by "MadStork #83") and the 49ers forum (by "Hacksaw #64").

Coincidence? Maybe yes.................

Maybe no.

That's weird, because I've never done any reading about the history of the NFL and barely watched ESPN classic, and I had heard of this guy before. Maybe it was a story on NFL network.

I finally went and saw this film last night and it was very good. A little trite, a little cliche, but I cut it slack since it was a true story, and how often does a guy friggin' walk on and make an NFL roster?

Mark Wahlberg may not be the best actor ever, but he has great screen presence. Greg Kinnear was also great as Vermeil. In the scene where Vermeil is introduced at the press conference, you could tell Kinnear had done his homework.

An uplifting story that I will probably add to my movie library when it comes out on DVD.
