There was some heavier traffic around Providence as I tried to drive home. I got out of work just after about 7,000 people gathered at the State House.

On a personal note... I'm not sure I understand what they're protesting. Isn't this all about ILLEGAL immigration? What part of "illegal" can people not comprehend? I've heard people saying it's unfair, America is "the land of the free", "our" Italian and Irish and Asian and Jewish ancestors were allowed in, etc.,.--but that was LEGAL immigration, going through Ellis Island and paying taxes (not swimming across a river and climbing a fence).

And another thing... historically, America was a melting pot. People came here to start fresh in a new country and keep their culture yet also BECOME American. And, thus, whenever I see a picture of one of these recent rallies where someone is shouting and waving a South American flag or something... it makes me wish the government would pick them up and throw them RIGHT OUT OF THE #*&(!@ COUNTRY. :::getting down off his soapbox:::

Can someone explain the logic -

If there are current jobs held by illegals and they were deported to wherever they live, this country would fold like a shitty hand at poker.

So if there were jobs opening all of a sudden, isn't there a pool of legal immigrants and other citizenry that are not employed that would be willing to work in a majority of those jobs?

Wouldn't that lower the unemployment rate and reduce the need for state and federally sponsored assistance?

Seeing as how I'm pretty much in the epicenter of all this, let's see...

I woke up yesterday morning, later than usual. Stopped at 7-11 for my morning Yoohoo. (Yeah, that's right. What of it?) I don't think the illegals had anything to do with it, but the !@$%^@$% ATM reader was broken, which pretty much meant nobody in the store knew how to do their jobs anymore.

Steaming, I hopped back in the car. The good news was that with all them illegals taking the day off, the freeways were completely empty. I zoomed to my train station in about 1/3 the time it normally takes, kissed the girl bye, and hopped my train.

Instead of having to sit next to some smelly crazy dude or the dude clipping his fingernails, I had a whole bench to myself to stretch out on. Ahh. This is livin'.

When I got to work (about three blocks from Staples Center), we spent a chunk of the morning watching demonstrators walk by our building in small groups of four or five. Nothing major, nothing crazy. A couple co-workers went over to check out the demonstration at lunch, as it was happening about five blocks from here.

On the way home, the train was pretty normal traffic. A few families with children who hadn't given up on waving their small flags yet.

Got back to my car, and on the way home, made a run for the border. Cheesy bean and rice burrito. Just like they make in Rosarita.

Now, I am a lefty. I am damn near a commie and with Canada's right wing budget coming down today I am fearing tax cuts.
However, some leftiest terms drive me nuts. One being from a group yesterday that was against the term illegal immigrants because people can't be illegal.

OK, can anyone explain that for me and if you are a lawyer I will meet you at the US border at 6 p.m. to pick up my dual citizenship that I am entitled to having been born into a . . . world.

All I can say is that my neighbor recently had his roof replaced and they had about a dozen guys working on it and my guess is at least half of them were illegals. All were speaking spanish.

I guarantee that if I yelled out "INS!!!" then his crew would have run off into the woods.

Next time I hire anyone I'm going to insist on seeing proof of citizenship for every person on the job. Others should as well.

It pisses me off that ILLEGAL immigrants who pay no taxes and have no health insurance will help themselves to emergency medical and many other public services that don't have the option of refusing.

Guess who gets to pay for it?

Apply for citizenship, obey the laws of this country if you have the privilege of obtaining it and get the f#$k back to where you came from if you don't.

This little power play was a flop, IMO.

the thing they don't seem to realize is that most of the legal citizens in this country don't want to hear from people who think they are entitled to something, whether it's fast track to citizenship, welfare, free health care or whatever, especially while waving any flag other than that the U.S. and making a speech or chanting in any language other than English.

Unfortunately making that statement runs me the risk of being called an evil racist who wants nothing more than to break up the illegal families.

I work for agencies that build low cost single family homes and see every day people who work hard and save for the "American Dream" of owning a home and improving the communities they live in - getting it done within the established framework, showing perseverance, etc. - it makes me less than patient with those who BREAK THE LAW but want a pass for it.

I absolutely loathe those who don't take responsibility for their actions.
