Texans release MLB Jamie Sharper

April 1, 2005
HOUSTON (Ticker) - Jamie Sharper, who has started 48 games straight games at middle linebacker for the Houston Texans since their inaugural season in 2002, was released by the team Friday.

A nine-year veteran, Sharper originally was selected by the Texans in the 2002 expansion draft. He recorded 436 tackles and 11 1/2 sacks while playing in the Texans' 3-4 defensive scheme.

"He's been extremely productive for us," Texans coach Dom Capers said. "We wish him well whatever teams he ends up with catching on."

Sharper, 30, spent his first five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and was a member of their Super Bowl-winning team in 2001.

This would seem to be a good ILB for the Pats to go after.

Sharper is top notch and played a monster game against us in Houston last year.

I wonder if he is interested in getting a Super Bowl ring or two?

He is going to command top dollar, but would be invaluable to us and would fit this defense like a glove.

Sign him up if we can get the numbers right.

I would feel a lot better about LB with him in the fold.

Every down, these guys were there
------------------------------------
Usually, the list of guys who take part in 100 percent of their team's offensive or defensive plays is mostly made up of offensive linemen.

...

It's the nine defensive players who should get the most credit. If you stay on the field in this era of situational substitution, it means you're a heck of a player. It means you can tackle against the run, yet have the ability to play in coverage. It also means you stay healthy.

The nine were Ravens safety Ed Reed, Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey, Browns safety Robert Griffith, Panthers safety Mike Minter, Texans linebacker Jamie Sharper, Saints safety Jay Bellamy, Seahawks safety Ken Hamlin, Redskins linebacker Antonio Pierce and Redskins linebacker Marcus Washington.
--------------------------------------

I'd love to have him.

I would love to have Sharper. Give me Sharper and a WR in this draft and the offseason is complete. But he does have one ring from his days in Baltimore..Get another one Jamie..You can play with Starks again too!

Sharper would be nice as we all know the Pats have some LB holes to fill. Guess we will find out if the Pats have any interest in him.

seems to rich for our bank account, discount him a bit and keep it a short term deal with his age and amount of hours on the engine and he would be an excellent choice

as long as he is smart enough to learn the system which it appears he is atleast more so than a rookie or still learning klecko, but maybe get a ILB in the draft also to tutor

Seahawks: Sharper contemplating a visit

News
Recently released linebacker Jamie Sharper could visit the Seahawks this week. Sharper's agent has been in contact with the Seahawk front office, and Seattle has a need at his position after releasing Anthony Simmons and losing Orlando Huff via free agency.

Views
Sharper was released last week by the Texans and is expected to draw interest from several teams besides the Seahawks, most notably the Ravens (his former team), the Bengals (coached by Marvin Lewis, his former defensive coordinator), and the Jaguars (coached by Jack Del Rio, his former linebackers coach).

All these teams have Links to Sharper's past. Except the Seahawks. Makes me think the Blog is just "wishful thinking" on the part of the writer.

Still, Whats the skinny on this Anthony Simmons that the Hawks released?
