Boycott
I am just about ready to boycott everything NFL until they get this ref situation fixed. This is no longer a prefessional sport... it's a joke.
If it's the refs asking too much then shame on them. If it's the League expecting too much for too little then shame on them. Sit down and find something that leaves neither side happy but works. In the meantime I don't think I will be watching any more games, buying any more sh$t and I certainly won't be attending any games (I was about to buy tickets for the visit to Buffalo). I've seen enough. |

Ya, it's pretty pathetic right now.
Have to laugh at the league now though because it must have ZERO leverage after that debacle last night. I'm sure the NFL refs were watching at home in a state of: ![]() |

What I heard - and I'm too lazy to look it up - is that it has to do with the Refs' pension(s), not pay. The league wants to strip them of their pensions because they're part-time employees and feel they ought not to be entitled. I can't attest to that, but I do believe that is the sticking point.
I guess there goes what we've all been clamoring for in the first place for years in one fell swoop, anyway: that the Refs become FULL time and scrap their day jobs. The NFL has the money. If this was affecting the bottomless wallet, this would have been over months ago. It's of no consequence to the league in the immediate sense whether or not it gets resolved. The Super Bowl will not be canceled, Little Johnny, even if people get maimed along the way. The ratings will be there regardless. Funny that player safety is what ![]() |

I would like to see them let Madden (the video game) call random penalties during the game, rather than use human beings as replacement refs. At least Madden knows what the rules are, and could apply them equally to each team. |

I had a thought that instead of just, say, awarding 15 yards for a penalty they should just award a TD and do another pointless kickoff. The final score of last night's game would have been 222-221, but the excitement would have been even greater. |

Another thought I have had is that given how surreal these games are with the random officiating, it doesn't feel like the teams are playing football, so why not have them play some completely different game instead of even trying to play football. What I have in mind is something like a rainy-day activity in gym class, where the gym teacher makes up a game: have the teams show up on the field and then announce what game they will play.

Well, there's always the CFL as an alternative.

Apart from how nerve-wracking the Pats-Balt game was to begin with, the fact that you had no idea what braindead calls would be made created total pandemonium in my house. Throw a pass. Throw a flag. Another pass. Another flag. Snap the ball. Flag. Punt. Flag. Flag. Plag plag plag - gag ...
At least they weren't playing favorites. Both sides got HORRIBLE calls. Even the oldbag knows the diff between illegal contact and pass interference. GAWD!!! It's like bizzaro football - nothing like what I've ever seen before. ![]() Not sure how long I can hang if this is all that's on offer ... :( :Patriots! |

It just seemed as the pats bad calls happened at worse times. There were drives that the refs flat out put them in the endzone. |
