Spoiler Alert! - Solo: A Star Wars Story

Just saw this tonight.....

I liked it. It was entertaining but I'm not sure yet what I "think" of it (if that makes sense). I'll be interested in what others think after they see it. I would not be surprised if some love it and some are so-so (I don't think anyone would "hate it" unless you had your own Han Solo backstory worked out in your head)
I walked out of the theater liking Rogue one more, but would give Solo another viewing before passing final stand-alone-movie-rankings

A few cross overs from other movies or animated tv series, that don't spoil anything, just interesting they put them in.

Two Tubes from Rogue One is shown as part of a group of rebels
The Pike - from Star Wars The Clone Wars - get a live-action variation as the group that run a mining planet

And... this is a spoiler although I'm not sure what the point is of having him in there.....

===== spoiler ====

Darth Maul is revealed as the leader of the Crimson Sun crime syndicate (shown in a hologram). I'll have to confirm where this takes place in the star wars timeline as he was cut in half in "Phantom Menace" but brought back in The Clone Wars animated series, then appears again in Rebels before finally being killed off for good by Obi-Wan on Tattoine . he is just shown at the end talking to another character. Maybe a future tie-in somewhere but no clue otherwise.

there were other easter eggs but tired and can't recall them at moment :-)

That's all I need to know not to spend money in a theater to see it.
Thanks.

Get some feedback from someone you know and agree with on movies. Maybe that would sway you the other way or confirm what you said. I saw a free screening so that also can effect my feelings vs. having dropped $$$ bucks to bring the kids

Just came back from a preview.

It was good, not great. Predictable and a little too nostalgic for me. Even if you love Star Wars, like I do, this movie was not necessary.

couple of quick things....
it's Crimson Dawn (not Crimson Sun... doh!)
it's also the Pyke Syndicate (not Pike... doh x2)

My enthusiasm for Star Wars seems to diminish with every new movie.

I did like Rogue One. Frankly, I liked Rogue One better than any of the recent movies.

I waited in a line for the first one when I was stationed in California in the 70s. I saw the next 2. I haven't seen any of the others although I did try to get through Rouge One but couldn't finish, maybe 40 min. That said, I watched a couple trailers on this. I am a bit interested. I doubt...no...I know I won't go see this in a theater. When it comes to video, I expect I will try to watch on Netflix or the like.

I don't need to. A movie has to be definitely worth seeing for me to pay at a theater these days. An enthusiastic two thumbs up is a min. requirement for me. Then comes subject matter and genre. It's too easy to wait 2 years to see it for free. And after 10 years, I have a huge backlog of unwatched movies in queue.

This,
plus

With my hearing on it's ever downward spiral, the amazIng theater acoustics and soundtracks of today are far more compliated than my hearing aids can successflly process.
I am far, far better off with Amazon, Netlix, Hulu etc. I may never again enjoy the big screen.

Cheers

Agree on the sound. Constant tinnitus has taken its toll.

As far as the big screen, I expect that is relative. A 50, 60 or 70 inch screen in a small room is the big screen effect to be sure.

Top-five Star Wars movie absolutely fantastic. Ron Howard never disappoints as a director.

I liked it way more than the lukewarm reviews suggested I would.

Solid but not spectacular. Way better than the reviews suggest, though.

Yeah, IMO they probably should have just left it at the original three. While some of the new ones are pretty good, it just feels like a giant money grab.
