it makes no sense to me...

Want to see what changed? It was Blatimore figuring out they could get away with Murder (see what I did there) and sticking with it once they figured it out. Nothing changed schematically on the D. And when they weren't mugging both ends and running it down our throats, forcing 8 into the box, the refs gave Blatimore 3 separate free first downs that would have ended drives on excellent defensive plays that WERE NOT FOULS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. You want to blame the D for making 3 great, drive ending plays that they were inappropriately flagged for? Be my guest, but it's asinine to blame people who did well for the mistakes of the zebras.
Yeah, it is astounding to me that anyone would play the "they could have made one more play" card. What the hell for? To pretend to be a better fan?

They made two first downs inside the 20 while up 10-0 in the first quarter, both overturned by erroneous penalty calls, one of which was really a penalty on the defense.

On Baltimore's subsequent drive NE made another 3-and-out only for Baltimore to be handed their first sign of life in the form of a BS DH call that even Ray Rice (the one supposedly held) wasn't aware of.

Just make those two correct and NE is up at least 13-0 with the ball, likely up 17-0.

But wait! It doesn't end there!

Including the one above, Baltimore had three extra first downs awarded to them on their side of the field (after being stopped on 3rd down) that led to touchdowns. On the last of which, NE made a stand down by the GL and made a big sack to force 3rd and goal from the 20, only to see it be cancelled out by a DH call that was really OPI.

Chandler Jones and Nink earned at least seven blatant holds (arm barred and/or tackled within three yards of the guy with the ball, the easiest to spot penalty in the book) without a flag.

I can live with the non-calls, but technically Torrey Smith got away with a shove on both his TD catches.

Then, of course, there was the FG that may or may not have been good that the refs clearly just wanted to call good and get the hell out of there.

How many f***ing plays did they need to make? Isn't playing well enough to win a competently officiated game 37-17 against a good opponent on the road enough?

Like MM, I'm done with the NFL until they figure their shit out. Only one word describes this giant cluster**** that they are right now.

He probably wouldn't, but I wouldn't say it was impossible.

I thought the league sent a memo out to all the teams that essentially said that they wouldn't tolerate anyone giving and crap to officials and try to make them look bad.

It is certainly possible that the league would interpret BB violating that instruction by acting as you describe.

Of course, since he made contact and violated that memo, that makes a fine a certainty IMHO.

I agree that these "Refs" are horrible but you cannot touch an official.

Ah, you became a fan post 1976. The Raiders game was worse, far worse, so bad that I still remember the name of the referee who gave the game to the Raiders. ben Dreith. he NFL fired him after that. He sued, claiming age discrimination. THe NFL paid him rather than take a chance he might win and get back on the field.

Anyone thinking the replacements are totally bad should watch the 1976 Pats-Raiders game.

No, if he said anything that implied the refs made a mistake he would have been fined. That has been standard for years.

If you read "From the Patriots Sidelines", the players from the '76 team still believe that the fix was on with Dreith. I was 15 at the time, so the memory of that game is seared in my brain. It's still tough to think about that game. It was the year that the Pats were going to win the Super Bowl. They were the only team to beat Oakland that year (a blowout in Foxboro which I was at) and they were on their way to beating them in Oakland until two horrific plays: an interference against Oakland which was not called on 3rd and short (Francis was tackled when the ball was still yards from him) which would have given the Pats a 1st down and the game; and the famous roughing the passer.

Dreith was not fired after that season. That came some years later. But he was never allowed to work a Pats game after that.

He was interviewed sometime after he was done and he was still a miserable SOB.

Nothing can compare to that '76 game. Ben Dreith can rot in hell as far as I am concerned.
Bid, I too was at that blowout game in Foxboro. I even remember it was a gorgeous sunny warm day. Stabler was the Raider QB that day and the Pats had his number. Daryl Stingley had a couple TDs and Grogan kept throwing to Cunningham all day. I just cant remember the final score, but I want to say the Pats had 50 or so.

I looked it up: 48-17.

Yes, it was a beautiful day. I also got caught in the middle of a fight in the stands before the game even started. Two "friends" were arguing over the booze they had snuck into the game. They were sitting directly next to me. My arm was in a sling due to a dislocated shoulder and there was little I could do. When the fight started, my dad pulled me over and covered me up so I wouldn't get hit. The guys got arrested and the rest of the game was just fun.

Ahhh...the old days in Foxboro.

Just now, according to 98.5 Sports Hub, BB and Harbaugh were both fined 50K.
