Looking at the AFC East 2017

Figured it was time to start this thread.

Here is a breakdown of how each team looks after FA. I have to say I really like what the Fins are doing. They should be contenders for the WC again. Both the Bills and Jests are in rebuild mode.

Miami - http://www.espn.com/blog/miami-dolph...in-free-agency

Bills - http://www.espn.com/blog/buffalo-bil...-db-micah-hyde

Jests - http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york/je...-rely-on-draft

Signing OG TJLang and NT Dontari Poe would have really helped the Dolphins.
Ted Larsen is no TJLang. Lang gave up 1 sack since the start of the 2015 season. Keeping Tannehill upright with time to throw is the key to their offense.

Perfect spot for Poe. They could put him on the South Beach Diet.

Not sure this is even a conversation. Pats win the East by week 11. The rest of the East fight for maybe an wildcard spot. And by fight, I mean the Fins might get in if the rest of the AFC poops all over themselves. Kinda like the Broncos did. The JETS and Bills will fight it out for last.

Nice find. I looked for a similar one for the Pats and couldn't find it. Maybe their off season is too complicated to summarize

I like the articles - good summary of losses and gains, but don't understand the grading system, such as:

Overall grade: B-minus. It wouldn't be fair to dock the Bills too much for the losses of Gilmore and receivers Robert Woods (five years, $34 million) and Marquise Goodwin (two years, $6 million) in free agency. Those losses were expected, given the players' price tags.

So it's okay to lose three key players and sign no one of significance and your offseason is going well (graded B) because you didn't have the money to pay them? You still have overall big hits to your team and you just aren't as good as you were last year.

Jests get a C grade for losing two top players (Mangold and Marshall, not calling Revis a top player), but at least the Jets did re-sign their top FA (Brian WInters).

Here is the Pats write-up, http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/new-...ssive-approach

Here is the article if you want to look up other teams, http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/page...s-all-32-teams

I agree about the grades. They are way too generous but the write-ups are good.

Let's see if I can't move this sucker to p & r.

One way to spot a Liberal is how they dole out happy grades (and participation trophies). .

Cheers

I dunno, I think Tannehill is more problem than solution at this point. Do you think the Dolphins would have played any differently with him instead of Matt Moore? I don't.

I think it's amazing how close Tannehill's numbers are to Luck's and yet Tannehill is the problem but Luck is the solution.

I would put Tanny a tick above given his career completion percentage and the fact that he occasionally beats the Pats.

I don't think I've called Luck the solution in a long, long time.

You know I'm on-board the 'Luck's not much better than Tannehill' train. That doesn't mitigate the suckitude of Tannehill.

Their playoff records are a bit different however - and the Colts have had one of the worst defenses in the last five years.

I never understood the hate for Tannehill. He's been steady and doesn't seem to make the stupid mistakes you see bad QBs make. Being on a bad team with mediocre coaching in the same division as the Pats is his bigget problem. He's still stuck with 2 of the 3 (I think coaching to a big step forward).
