Byrd is a short, twitchy speed freak who has had some really bad luck with injuries during his 4 years in the league. He was a 2015 UDFA brought in by Carolina. PS for 2 years then he broke his arm vs the Pats running a reverse Oct.1, 2017 to go on IR then a mild hammy when he came off IR. He broke the same arm in the same place in 2018 to go on IR again. (Shades of Gronk)

He's also a KR and PR specialist with plus moves.

Quote:
From Gil Brandt 4/1/2015

The Univ. of S. Carolina pro day was held inside Williams-Brice Stadium, which has a grass surface. It is important to note that 40-yard dash times run on a grass surface are historically 0.13 seconds slower than those run on artificial turf.
He ran the 40 in 4.28 seconds. Byrd had a 42-inch vertical and 10-foot-11 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.03 seconds, the three-cone in 6.6 seconds and the 60-yard long shuttle in 10.90 seconds, which is unheard of (that time is faster than any other time posted at the 2015 scouting combine). Byrd also had 13 strength lifts. Byrd -- who has a track and field background -- is a small guy with a lot of speed. With those kind of pro-day numbers, Byrd will be a minimum of a priority free-agent pickup for a team following the 2015 NFL Draft. Gil_Brandt.

He'll be a low budget, bargain basement speedster kind of gadget guy who might not make it out of TC healthy but while he's there he will damn sure test our DBs' speed and will. But, ya know, he was damn near free and one of these days one of BB's gambles is gonna pay off.

Besides, he's taller, stronger, quicker and faster than Tyreek Hill!!

Right on cue, Evan Lazar has a video-filled analysis of Byrd.

You gotta continually try with these uber athletic low cost swing and misses.

Two that stand out that I’m stunned DIDNT work were TJ Moe and the DB I think still with the JETE Roberts. SPARQ scores were nuts.

Yep. I thought Roberts looked like a real find and it turned out that while he has played a lot of snaps in NJ-- he is pretty much a JAG.

Every year there are unknowns who look like HOF'ers in the spreadsheets and then.......crickets.

Moritz Boehringer was the german dude who ran a 4.4 at 6'4" and 229. Last I heard, the Vikings cut him because, while improving, he was just too raw to play in the NFL. He had too much to learn.

Who was the guy from Texas Tech (I think) that lit it up at his pro day and made all those mad, circus catches? Was it last year? The year before? I don't even remember his name now.

Based on the cap it appears like we are going to have to go shopping in the bargain basement because there is no choice. We can't buy anybody proven and I don't know how much wiggle room we can realistically create.

Moe is a good one to package up with Jeremy Gallon, Braxton Berrios, Taylor Price, and Josh Boyce. Gallon is the 1 guy I'll never understand. He had all the ability but didn't feel the desire to continue playing and he fell to the 7th round bc of that. Boyce was another guy - 4th round pick - was never able to learn the offense. Moe had a reason though...he tore his achilles in TC with the Pats so he was IR'ed then released.

Gotta keep throwing sh*t against the wall and hoping some will stick!
