Ok, I admit I have listened to Eric Mangini on one of talking heads shows. Anyway he is treated as person who "knows the Patriots".

On one show he said, "One thing BB is really really good at is evaluating NFL talent that is in the league".

I like Mangini but boy is he the ultimate BB/Pat fanboy. I don't know if he does it to try to get back into BBs good graces or if he just realizes now how dumb he was to leave and pull the stupid spygate stuff but he panders to the Pats at every chance. Even more than Lombardi.

Trade compensation update: Browns get a mid-round 2019 pick from Patriots, and Patriots get DT Danny Shelton and a 2018 draft pick from Browns, per source.

Not a bad deal at all. Shelton is still on his rookie deal with an option year to boot plus the Pats pick up a 5th round pick this year for a 3rd rnd pick in 2019.

Pure larceny.
i think it is the 3rd round comp pick the pats get next year. Not the pats own pick. About 7-8 spots lower.

I am excited to see how Shelton fares here. If he is a scheme fit and works his tail off, he seems to have the natural skillset to be an excellent player.

It's true that it didn't seem like the smash success that it did last winter when the "Patriots won the offseason". Marsh, Duane Allen, Kony Ealy, etc., etc. didn't do what we had hoped when we traded the picks, but if you look at a list of every team's draft picks from last season there were not a whole lot of big impact drafts around the league when the word was that it was a deep crop of rookies. Maybe it wasn't all that.

It didn't help that our top two picks both got IR'd, but tons of rookies around the league joined them there.

I was pissed at the time, mainly because I like watching the draft when the Pats are involved in it, but it wasn't all that bad when you weigh all the factors with the various trades. Just not what we've been used to since Nick Caserio took over.
