An ode to Oed...

Something about Oed's recent escapades has got me to thinking.... Is it best to follow your heart regardless of what it brings?.....What are the consequences of a sister scorned?... And, most profoundly, What the hell do the owls on the trash cans have to do with any of this?!?!

Anyways, Oed, I decided to take a crack at writing a poem to honor your unique plight. Here goes....

The Oedipus Dilemna
by DropKickMurphy

Last night in quiet desperation;
I filled five times the crystal snifter;
Reflecting on my situation:
My girlfriend or her young hot sister?

So tangled was this map of love;
Which route to choose? Who should be mine?
I begged for guidance from above;
Please, O God! Show me a sign!

Then having polished off the brandy;
Outside I went, spent jug to toss;
'Twas then I paused, quite drunk and randy;
Pondering two bins of discarded dross.

For upon each barrel stood an owl;
Great Horny females were the two;
"Shoo!", spat I. "Be off, vile fowl!"
They spun their heads and asked "Who.....who?"

As I endured a heart bisected;
(I freely admit this sounds absurd...
Perhaps by grape was I affected)
A sister's face now graced each bird.

A mirage brought by the Texas heat?
"I'll end this now!" I siezed a rock
Ere I could throw, from the old mesquite
Rose one more owl...a Great Horned cock.

He looped above the tender pair;
Then cried out from the sky Who? Who?
Could it be the answer to my prayer?
An omen sent? A fateful clue?

He plummeted toward the cans of trash;
With eyes ablaze, his beak a scowl;
As he absconded from the clash;
Each talon held a lady owl.

Oh wise Bubo virginianus!
Before I swear my marriage oath;
Ere either dons her wedding dress;
I have my answer: Fk em both!

Oed, you have to read this to them.

Positively Shakespearean.

Great dkm...whilst saying sooths
and spying upon fair owls
had hit upon the unfair truth...
& was brained by Oed's empty bottle.

I'm not a poet and don't know it. That was pretty sweet DK - I was wondering about those damn owls myself, now I know.

Brilliant!!

That last stanza is a masterpiece.

This poem should be preserved in the archives.

Sigmund's trying to figure out if Oedipus should do the older sister, the younger sister, or his mother!;)

I'm very impressed, DKM. The meter and tone of the piece is somehow very E.A. Poe...and thus creepy-by-association.

Now, if you can imagine the shudder that runs through you if you were reading a Poe poem about your life, you see where I am right now.

Methinks I need to take a picture of the owls on my trashcan and use that as my avatar.

I don't mind, but it's going to make a lot less sense with Alice's contributions deleted.

How 'bout dragging out the poem about the Owls for old times sake?
