Michael Floyd suspended

Looks like we escaped that one..

4 games for substance abuse.

Quote:
Michael Floyd's rocky NFL career is trending back downward.

The Vikings wide receiver was suspended for the first four games of the 2017 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, the team confirmed Friday.

Floyd will be eligible to return to the Minnesota's active roster on Monday, October 2, following the team's Week 4 clash with the Lions. The 27-year-old wideout is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games.

Floyd has made headlines for all the wrong reasons this offseason. After the former Cardinals standout signed a one-year deal with Minnesota in May, a judge in June sentenced Floyd to a one-day jail sentence and ordered him to serve the final five days of his previously issued house arrest for violating the terms of his DUI conviction.

Floyd had tested positive for alcohol while on house arrest, but said the positive test was due to his consumption of Kombucha tea, which he didn't realize contained alcohol.

"Do I believe it? I don't know how much tea he drank. I have no clue," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said this week before the suspension was handed down. "I don't have any doubt why there'd be skepticism, but he told me that he wasn't (drinking). That it was legit."

Zimmer said he also told Floyd: "If I find out you're lying to me, I'm going to cut you."

Floyd pleaded guilty to extreme DUI in February after Scottsdale police found him unconscious behind the wheel of his SUV in December. The 27-year-old served the first 24 days of his 120-day jail sentence at a county facility before spending the final 96 days in home confinement, per court records. In addition to jail time, he was ordered not to drink alcohol, undergo alcohol counseling, perform 30 hours of community service and pay a fine of $5,115.99.

The Cardinals cut Floyd two days after the DUI arrest. The Patriots went on to claim him off waivers before choosing not to re-sign him this offseason.

The Vikings have stood by Floyd since handing him a contract -- and they need help at the receiver position -- but his chances of making the team are dwindling. Floyd will need to dazzle Zimmer and the front office to stick around.
