Bledsoe to Patton - Incomplete
Rehashing old history. I don't recall this being discussed, but I'm not sure how it couldn't have been. Thought I'd toss it out there just for the heck of it.
This time of year I always break out the old Three Games to Glory series. Just to get my mind right, for the P/O's, you know. And every time I watch the slow mo replay of the Bledsoe to Patton TD in the AFCCG where the pall pops loose when David lands on his back and is not in his control as he rolls to his left and the tip of the ball hits the ground, I just say damn, glad they didn't have replay. Anyone else see it that way? Take a peek when you get a chance, if it just comes up blank to you. Cheers, BostonTim |

At around the 6:00 mark that play is shown from two different angles. While neither stays on the play long enough to see the ball squirt away, both are there long enough to demonstrate plenty of control, that if the ball came out afterwards it would still be complete. |

What was the rule back then regarding TD passes?
I know this has "evolved" over the years, but I don't recall what it was back then. IIRC, in the before time, they didn't have the "carry it to the ground" part of the rule in place. If you gained "control" and had two feet down (or one knee, etc.), it was TD and anything after that was moot. Assuming that was how the rule used to be, I'm not sure when it changed. |

Right about review. Change my POV to glad it wasn't reviewed.
These Video's obviously don't show what I'm talking about they are either the wrong angle or cut off too soon. On the Three games to glory video, in the intro (chapter one on the menu) to the whole disc, it slow mo's a bunch of plays from the three game run. The shot it takes of the Patton TD runs just a bit longer than these shown here nd you clearly see that the ball does come loose & the tip of the ball either hits ground or may a hair from hitting when the shot is cut. Anyway others may see it differently. But this jumps out at me every time I watch it. I'm not sure exactly what the state of "going to ground" was in early 2002. Cheers, BostonTim |

That receiver in control thing was not around then. They did not start that until later. It used to be you did not have to catch it, roll over, hand it to the ref and go to the sideline or it was not a catch, that was something they put in recently. If not, Chris Carter would never have a catch on the sideline.
