Freeney and Osi

I was wondering, will Coach Bellichek try and sign Freeney and Osi for cheap? I know they have both seen their best days but if the price is right, they would be able to help you guys.

Any thoughts?

I think Freeney is heading to either Denver or to the Giants. Mild chance of him going to the Falcons (if they can somehow clear the cap room. The Cowboys, in theory, are far from possible but Jerry Jones always seems to find a way (though although Freeney is a big-name, he's not controversial at all so he might not interest Jerry). I don't really see the Patriots happening on Freeney (now that I say that, it'll almost certainly happen).

If cheap enough, there's always a possibility. A veteran edge-rusher for Camp and possibly through the season might be a bonus (if cheaper than Scott), but I don't think it's as pressing a need as an interior rusher who's solid enough against the run to be more than a situational guy.

It seems to me, though, that with 25 teams in cap purgatory, this could be the year to seriously slow-play free agency and wait for the inevitable "market correction."

This. My theory is that Manning just doesn't want to get hit by Dwight, because I'm sure there is no other QB in the league he'd rather crush than Peyton Manning. This might not be common knowledge around here, but most Colt fans know, Dwight HATES Quarterbacks. Like forseriously hates them. His entire career, he's not been allowed to touch Peyton Manning. 10 years of Red Jersey. That's quite a bit of pent up frustration dying to be released. I'm guessing Manning would prefer to not take another go at comeback player of the year.

I've said it before, but I don't even think that New England would want him unless you plan on playing quite a bit more 4-3 where the end's responsibility is only to run after the QB. Run stopping for Dwight is kinda like tackling for Deion Sanders. Yeah, he can do it, but that's not why he's on your team.

Also, the reason he's not retiring a Colt is because he's not a 3-4 OLB. I don't know what teams still play Cover/Tampa2 as their base defense but whoever still does, that's where he really belongs.

Freeny isn't really a fit here, he's too small for what the Pats look for in a DE and I doubt he wants to learn to play on 2 feet at this point in his career.

Osi on the other hand might fit better and if the price was right...

Do you throw him in at end though? Who does he sit down or is he used for just depth? I am not sure he would be a great fit at OLB on that defense...I do not think he fits on NE either, but denver seems to be ok in that department, what they need are linebackers that can cover.

Osi would be a good fit here in NE. BB can use him at DT & DE.

The idea of rushing Dumerville, Freeney, and Miller on a 3rd and long should be of interest to just about anyone, I would think.

Where is Freeney going to be rushing from? Linebacker? Denvers needs are not at pass rush, they need a linebacker that can cover the middle of the field, I do not care if they have 20 pass rushers, a team with a good TE is going to kill them.

Defensive end.

Denver runs a 4-3.

I would assume so but I don't know enough about Denver's defense to speak intelligently about it
