I would have said that before 2001, lets just say I have been spoiled since then. 1 SB trip ending in a 5-11 record at the end. I mean hell we had that with Grogan. I was actually making a joke based on what Tommy said, but yeah at the end of the day Bledose was slightly above pretty good.

I mention this from time to time. Haven't done the HW and so can't back it w/data. Bledsoe's fatal flaw (imo): He processed too slowly. Delay of game was killing us. I think that was the very first thing Bill saw the moment Tom showed up at TC2000. From Moe lewis on, delay of game virtually disappeared.

Cheers.

Love Drew.

Bledose was a good QB, but He had a ceiling and we saw it, and it was not what we wanted.

Disagree with this. He had just been given a huge new contract in what? 1999? He was what we wanted until Mo Lewis adn Brady.

exactly. and he would be welcomed with open arms today.

I blame Poodle Pete's open for fun locker room after the Parcels wall of Dictatorship for the reason Drew did not continue to rise.... and Rick Mirer sucked

This is a ridiculous comment. Bledsoe had three coaches in seven years with the Patriots. He had a pretty solid career with Buffalo and Dallas afterwards so it's not like he was a bust. If he had Belichick his entire career, he would have had solid success here. It wouldn't have been at the Brady level, but he could have been a second-tier SB winner like a Roethlisberger.

How did you get bust out of what I said? I said he was above average. Belichick is not a offensive guru like people think, he leaves that to the offensive coaches. Bledsoe was fine, but Bledsoe also had belichick and Bill Parcells so lets stop acting like he had two garbage head coaches. I never said Bledsoe was bad, a bust or anything else, and at the time, I thought he was a god send when he came here.

He obviously was not what BB wanted. BB didnt give him the contract. The team regressed quite a bit from 96 to 2000, and so did he. We can argue this but I think the numbers back it up. Also, at least according to Belichicks book, he was thinking of a change at that poisition even before the injury, but experience was a factor still. So either Belichick is lying to make it look like he saw that coming all along, or bledsoe was on his way out anyway. If Brady had a 77 Qb rating and the team went 5-11 and got hurt and JG came in and ran off 11 wins and a superbowl title, he would not be in San Fran right now. Its really that simple.

I like him too, nothing wrong with him, but he might be the second best QB the pats have had and that is not saying much.

You think he's the second best until you remember how god damn awesome Tom Hodson was.

Bledsoe wasn't one of the many cuts BB made in the 2000 and 2001 season. Bledose only became expendable when Brady played like he did after Mo Lewis.

Were you even a fan in 2000? Do you know what BB did to that team to start the 2000 and 2001 seasons? He cut all the good players who were being paid more than they were worth. He didn't cut Bledsoe. But those two offseasons, the cut some many starters and second stringers than in 2001, at the 53-man cutdown, we started the season with 51 players because he said he didn't have 53 nfl quality players. He picked up other teams' castoffs to make the roster (Andruzzi from Green Bay and others). Any you think BB blamed going 5-11 on his QB, not the all-cut, cut-to-the-bone rebuilding effort?

Do you have any idea how numb this is? First, BB was thinking about something, so if he didn't do it he was lying about thinking about it? I can see why he like Brady after watching him in training camp in 2001, but to say BB was going to cut Bledsoe based on a backup QB's preseason resume is over the top. All Brady did in training camp is beat out Damon Huard for second string and that gave him a chance to show what he could do in regular season games.

I'm not saying Bledsoe was better than Brady. He wasn't, not by a long shot. Bledsoe played on too many teams were it was up to him to make something happen and he learned a lot of bad habits as the years went on. I know you like Brady, but that doesn't mean every other Patsa QB has been trash.

You keep quoting stats to show that Bledsoe wasn't that good, but how are these:
Bledsoe and Parcells were together for 4 years, and the Pats won 32 games total those four years. The four years before Bledsoe/Parcells, the Pats won 14 games total. Those three post 1996, pre-Belichick years you say proved Bledsoe went down hill, the Pats won 27 games, and IMPROVEMENT of one more game won per year over the pre-1996 years. How is that proof of falling off? The Pats went to the playoff four of the six pre-Belichick Bledsoe years. There was a seven year drought where the Pats failed to make the playoffs the seven years before Bledsoe.

Again, Bledsoe wasn't Brady, but we were a far better team after he was drafted.
