Wow, Big Vince, what a player he was. I remember the day we drafted him, he "slipped" to us at #21 as I recall. I was delirious with joy, knowing we had a guy like him to plug the middle. Thanks Vince for a great career, a super true Patriot...!

He played at a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year level from 2010-2013. Even when double and triple-teamed, he still blew up plays.

Buttfumble? Doesn't happen without Vince Wilfork.

The only U of Miami player that I know who introduced himself that way in the pregame on the SNF, and not 'Da U'.

On of my favorite all-time Patriots, and should absolutely get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but I'll settle for the Patriots Hall of Fame and a number retirement.

He was that damned good.

I will always remember that AFCCG v the Ratbirds when he made crucial plays including that backfield tackle that pushed them back for the FG. Not his fault he was surrounded by terrible defenders in that team and couldn't go all the way for a ring.

I remember the day after the draft, my neighbor (in South Bend, Indiana) said to me, "That bastard Belichick did it again". Say what? I said. He said, "Your team got Vince Wilfork and he's a D-line monster". One of the few things the guy has been right about.

Love it.

One of the media columns reprinted BBs thoughts the day after he drafted Vince. BB said how surprised he was that he fell down the pecking order and his delight in picking him up. Said he had come from a great program with top quality linemen a key feature of the U. And praised him for the way he dealt with losing his dad during the season. The maturity he showed.

Awesome. This stuff is why I when people talk about how heartless the Pats/BB are and how they don't care about their players. Ninko was no superstar like Vince, but he exemplified the qualities BB values. If you do that, you will be shown your proper respect, star or not.

If the 2004 draft were done over, where would Wilfork go?

Top 10?

Top 5?

#2? (instead of Robert Gallery)

He should be but I think the fact that Ted Washington isn't in yet isn't real good news for Big Vince.

Vince is much better than Washington. His postseason success and his visibility as a Patriot is going to help him a lot.

ps- He better get it considering Joe Namath and Terrell Davis are in (different positions, but still...)

I don't know that I would agree that he was much better than Washington. Washington was an absolute monster. There really aren't any DL like Washington or Wilfork in the Hall of Fame so I'm not going to hold my breath. Like someone else said, the Patriots Hall of Fame will be just fine.

BB on Vince.

Quote:
“Vince was a great player and had a great athletic career, a great player here. He did a lot for our football team in a lot of different ways, on and off the field. He’s a special, special, special player,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said of Wilfork ahead of Tuesday’s practice.
