Kraft Goes On Record About The ESPN Article

Kraft talks to PK and denies much of what is in the espn story.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/01/06/ne...tom-brady-espn

A little of what Kraft said.

In a telephone interview, Kraft disputed all tenets of the story.
“Until Monday at the trade deadline—I believe that was Oct. 30—the last time I talked to Bill about Jimmy’s situation was in a group with Bill, [club president] Jonathan [Kraft], [director of player personnel] Nick Caserio … a small group of us, I think in June. That is the last time I talked to Bill about it. I would see Nick occasionally and say, ‘Anything going on?’
“I assumed once the season started, we’d talk again at the end of the season about it. The next time I spoke with Bill about it was the Monday before the trade deadline. He called me on that Monday and said he got a deal with San Francisco, Jimmy for a second-round pick and [quarterback] Brian Hoyer. Turns out they had to cut Hoyer and then we got him. But really, this was basically a second-round pick and Brian Hoyer for Jimmy. Bill asked me if I was OK with this. I was really taken aback a little bit. I wanted to think about it. I talked to Jonathan, who was okay with it, and I called Bill back and said, ‘OK.’”
Kraft called the report that he and Belichick met for half a day during the season about Garoppolo “a total fabrication and fiction. I am telling you, it’s fiction.”

Yeah that's my personal philosophy as well, is to disregard what people actually involved in situations say and instead trust anonymous sources who weren't directly involved. Far more credible.

Of course none of us are surprised by this. And there is zero reason for Kraft to lie as if the BSPN story were true that would only infuriate BB. People just can't stand the fact that BB made a business decision based on multiple factors.

You have to love the last line by King: "It’s unknown why there is such a gap between what Wickersham reported and what Kraft has vehemently denied."

Maybe because BSPN is a piece of fake news trash Peter?

BTW, I LOVE that Kraft when to King to discuss this and totally dissed our local media trolls.

King is a full blown idiot with very little useful information who types a lot of words with virtually no content. But there are enough of his fans out there on a national level to make Kraft's statement useful.

Going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if both BB and TB12 make a statement at their next presser, essentially amounting to "this is the only time I will comment on this and will only answer questions about our upcoming game".

I used to really love King but he became compromised under the weight of a barbaric league run by

That being said, he is national and still has clout and Kraft has always had a great relationship with him. I just like the fact that he went to him and passed over our local tools (not including Reiss, Curran and Bedard).

I would not expect a presser from BB or Brady. I think they are more than happy to let Kraft handle this given the high level nature of the story and the fact that Kraft is the one being blamed for supposedly forcing BB's hand. Plus they got ring #6 to focus on.

King's only sources are NFL owners, so it's really no surprise, he kisses their asses enough.

Also, there will be no statement. They will respond to any question with 'We already put out a statement about that", meaning the Stacy James, er, 'United We Stand' statement.

evidently, sometimes the best team doesn't win.

''Sometimes, the best team doesn't win,'' Stewart said. ''We should have won today, but they outplayed us.''

An article summarizing Schefter's take on the BB to the Giants idiocy (and Schefter is one of the few who usually gets it right).

https://985thesportshub.com/2018/01/...ichick-giants/

Quote:
Adam Schefter appeared on ESPN to aggressively shoot down another big rumor involving the Patriots. And this is something Patriots fans can really get behind: Schefter believes there's almost no chance that head coach Bill Belichick would leave New England to coach the New York Giants after 2017.

Schefter's new report comes after a story by Gary Myers of the New York Daily News, which says Belichick "sees an opening" to coach the Giants next season. New York, of course, is in the midst of a search for its next head coach. And Patriots coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia already interviewed for the vacancy themselves.

But Belichick? Schefter, who certainly has extremely high sources with the Patriots (read: the Krafts and probably Belichick himself), isn't buying it.

Among the reasons Schefter believes Belichick is staying put in New England:

-- He has "time left on his contract"
-- Even if he wanted to, the Patriots wouldn't just let him go to New York
-- He wouldn't want to take over a rebuilding team that already has a GM
-- The Giants have a very uncertain quarterback situation

Belichick's contract details are not publicly known, but Schefter at least confirmed that it won't run out after this season. He even burned Giants fans with "They can dream."

The speculation came after "a source close to Belichick" told Myers that he wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots head coach bolted for the Giants with their current opening.

"I’m sure Bill knows this is his last chance to be the Giants coach," said the source, who apparently hasn't even spoken to Belichick since Wickersham's story came out. "Bill sees an opening — an opening to get to the Giants."

What does this all mean?

It's pretty clear now that Schefter has spoken to his Patriots sources. Sources that are absolutely more credible than whoever gave Myers this speculative quote to run with for his story.

Not only did Schefter shoot down Myers' report, he ostensibly dispelled the notion in Wickersham's piece that 2017 could be the last season together for the Patriots' triumvirate of Belichick, Robert Kraft, and Tom Brady. The detailed report, which dropped on Friday, is not entirely a work of fiction. But considering that Kraft and Brady are very unlikely to be anywhere but New England next season, the idea that this year's turmoil will break up the band can pretty much be put to rest.

Now you may be saying right now, "Wait, isn't Adam Schefter the guy who said the Patriots weren't trading Jimmy Garoppolo?" That's correct, but that doesn't mean he was wrong about that. He never said the Patriots are keeping Garoppolo for his whole career. The crux of his reporting was that the Patriots were keeping him for the start of the 2017 season. So technically he was right.

Who should we believe?

At the end of the day, Schefter is simply an impeccable reporter. He almost never gets anything wrong. And now it sounds like he's going on another reporting crusade, this time for Belichick staying in New England. Which can't possibly be favorable news for fans of the other 31 teams.

You mean help like in the 2016 playoffs, when the tying two-point conversion for Kansas City was nullified by a bogus call, and the Steelers went on to win?
