Really it all comes down to can we find the next starting QB for the Patriots. If we can this conversation is moot, if we can't we may have just traded away a franchise QB for an ever worsening 2nd round pick.

In hoodie I trust, but I have to admit on this one it's hard to repeat that mantra.

no its not moot if that happens - and be honest the chance of the PATS striking qb gold again are real real slim.

this is a conversation on the PATS getting a proper return for the potential the JG represented at the time of the trade.

JG's current level of play does not really matter outside of reinforcing that the PATS must have traded JG for a 3->2 upgrade despite knowing he was this good.

Wrong that hindsight is causing some to crow?

Show me the posts from last season or even preseason praying that the Patriots would never trade JG.

Hindsight.

its not like the pats didn't know what they had in JG yet still took a last second offer without even trying to set a real bidding war.

So what should the a Patriots have done? Show me the process.

Well you have had 17 years of winning, going to superbowls half the time, so maybe you should just be happy with what that shitty coach and old crappy QB got you.

We would have had 33rd overall pick. Locked up if we traded him to QB hell.

How good? He has not even played a season. I remember Dak was good too, and about 500 others, nobody has any idea what is going to happen. The pats had to make a move, the trade value was what it was, stop crying and be happy your team is about to wrap up first over all seed.

Are they slim? They got Brady in the sixth round with BB and company grooming him into the GOAT. They have also drafted/developed no less than 5 Qbs who are starting or have started in the league over the past 17 years - Cassel, Hoyer, Brissett, Mallett, Jimmy G. The first time BB attempted to draft Brady's replacement he got Jimmy G. late in the second round. I mean the guy kind of knows what he is doing. The only discussion that has merit right now is whether they got enough in return for Jimmy. Clearly, they didn't BUT there were also extenuating circumstances that led to BB making the trade when he did. He will go get the next guy this off-season and there is no reason to doubt that he will not find that guy based on history.

Agree.

With all the complications of Jimmy Garopollo wanting to be a starter in this league, believing he could be, the salary cap, the franchise tag, and even just the obvious variables, how would some, that believe he did the wrong thing, have handled this?

Clearly planning for the future is important, but so is the present. In others eyes, should they have traded Brady.

As I said in the other Jimmy G thread, BB did everything right... but Brady keeps on performing long after anyone could have imagined.
Sending Jimmy G to SF vs. him ending up in the AFC or worse the AFCE is managing it as best you can.

true on all of this but that does not mean you can't question a move that by all things BB seems completely out of character

keep him till the end the year is not over, a lot can change, and get the 3 for loosing him to fa

the stuff about wanting to move jg out of the afc makes it even worse, that means BB thinks JG is the next best thing and gave him away for a 3-2 swap.

you telling me bb the man who traded bledsoe in the division, cut milloy knowing he would end up in the division is suddenly scared of jg...really?
