Though I naturally oppose the President making law by fiat, which is un-Constitutional, I'll wait to see what the XO says in writing, because there never was any "gun show loophole". Buying a gun at a gun show requires a background check, and always has.....the lack of which is a fiction invented by the gun control crowd.

What I am hearing is that the actual writing is extraordinarily vague and broad, so that it may be interpreted to mean pretty much anything, and arbitrary.

By the time any of this gets resolved, everyone will be 3D printing guns, anyway. HOORAY!

I sure hope that someday they look into the psychological drugs that mass shooters have a history of taking. It'll never happen, though, That would defy the government's overlords.

It's not fiction, but it is exaggerated. Making it mandatory to perform background checks for every seller isn't really a huge deal.
However, increasing the accuracy (and speed of processing) of the NICS system is a huge deal and should be applauded even if you dislike that it's being performed through an executive action.

Be careful how they define "transfer", too, when requiring that BGCs be performed every time.. They ****ed us here with that shit. My girlfriend and I used to buy guns for each other, and enjoy shooting together - trading or trying each other's guns etc.. Enjoying it. Hard to do anymore when a "transfer" even includes, "Hey honey, wanna try my suppressed SBR?"

I'm just wondering how many of these recent shootings would have been prevented by this law. I can't think of any. They had a parent from Sandy Hook up there with Obama and I'm damn sure this law wouldn't have stopped what that guy did.

I have my suspicions about the expanded background checks. In CA, as of January 1, they are already knocking on dorrs and confiscating guns from peopel that legally owned them, because of legal violations that are decades old, such as in the 70's.

My expectation is Obama is looking to nationalize this. I am highly skeptical that he is looking to put in a fast lane for buying guns. There is just no way.

By the way....I literally laughed when I saw Obama crying on TV. It was so obviously contrived, and even his mannerisms were contrived. he was obviously being schooled to mimic Bill Clinton in that speech....I'm surprised he didn't let fly a "I feel your pain" during the speech. It obviously wasn't in the slightest bit genuine emotion. It was acting.

In his defense, 90% of politics is performance and acting, anyway. I just wanted to have another chuckle over the crocodile tears he shed....and the liberal media is all abuzz about it...headline news.

Can you imagine if George Bush came out and cried during 9/11? Does anyone think the media would be swooning over how sensitive and caring George Bush is?

911 victims' families.
'Not the slightest bit genuine emotion. It was acting'.

?

Sorry, but there may be a screw loose if you get a 'chuckle' from people getting emotional about truly ****ed-up carnage.

IMO.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but Obama's emotion in that speech was 100% rehearsed for effect, in my opinion.

I think it was all done to exploit the atrocity for political benefit.

And I think most people will fall for it, as intended.

We do spend a lot of money on mental healthcare already with Obama care. "more people then ever have access to mental health care" according to Obama. So throwing more money on a broken system isn't going to improve anything. The mental health system needs to be addressed and fixed. You can all get access to it unfortunately we don't have the facilities needed to properly treat and house those who need it the most.

Dedicate significant new resources to increase access to mental health care. Despite our recent significant gains, less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need. To address this, the Administration is proposing a new $500 million investment to help engage individuals with serious mental illness in care, improve access to care by increasing service capacity and the behavioral health workforce, and ensure that behavioral health care systems work for everyone.

Again that helps no one. Pretty words and all there are plenty of professionals already trying, but the legal system ties their hands. So basically he wants to hire more social workers . There are no facilities to house those who need it the most even if you can get them committed which is not an easy task. Truth be told most of those diagnosed that he's talking about would legally be considered entitled to and should be getting free care "Medicare" and state aid. Sounds pretty but words and throwing money at a problem fix nothing.

So you disagree based on the non-concrete wording saying to increase capacity and that's fine (you know more about the issue than I do). But to say no one is addressing mental health is factually untrue.

Gee, since you seem to know what my emotional responses are at all times, I'd like to know where your hidden camera is....

I assert that the same white house that had memos strategizing how to exploit murders committed by Fast & Furious guns provided to drug lords by the Justice Department, before any such murders with those guns actually occured, is certainly not above exploiting murders ex post facto for the same cause.

Also, I know crocodile tears when I see them, especially from this president who has cried on many occasions prior. I have seen both genuine grief and rehearsed grief from him, and this was rehearsed.

One of the oldest strategies in power politics is to link exploitation with tragedy, such that questioning the exploitation can be equated to questioning the tragedy.

The faked Syria Sniper Boy video is an excellent example. It has to be shocking enough to not be questioned. And when you get something real that is shocking enough, even better.
