I'm not asking about threatening anyone, be it civilian, law enforcement, government official or an endangered tortoise, but simply possessing a weapon.

What is your basis for saying there are people who have "no business" owning weapons?

Who decides who has such "business"?

Yes, I am saying that weapons like the one in the picture Steve-O posted do not belong in public carried by Joe Civilian for the purpose of pointing it at federal officials doing their jobs.

I strongly disagree that armed citizens should gather in masse to interfere with a matter that is NOT their business. It's not their home, it's not their land, and this situation does not concern them. This is between the ranch owner and the government.

What happens if Joe Citizen sees a police matter in full bloom and they decide, "Hey, that's uncool so I'm going to stop my car, brandish my firearm and get into the middle of this one, by God!"

Think about that. It's not a good idea.

On a bigger scale, too. It could cause a ripple effect with gun owning nuts deciding they can just jump right on in. What about people who do not get online and blog about this situation and are clueless it's happening? They blunder into the midst and someone could get killed.

I don't see the need, at this juncture in time, of militias forming to fight the government. Angst is rampant in our country. Too many people are getting extreme in their beliefs and actions.

A little restraint is a good thing.

They want to "take up arms" because they lost. They lost in 2008, they lost in 2012.

It's not about taxes, because these nuts were silent under Bush, and taxes have been even lower under Obama.

Judge Napolitano on the Ranch Rebellion

Submitted by Puma for Life on Mon, 04/14/2014 - 17:54in

http://youtu.be/iayVoKJbRNo

“The federal judiciary should not be deciding what land the federal government owns,” said Napolitano, adding that the feds should have placed a lien against Bundy’s property to collect grazing fees and not conducted a raid backed up by armed agents to seize his private property.
“The government’s option is to take the amount of money he owes them and docket it, that is file the lien on his property….the federal government could have done that, instead they wanted this show of force,” said Napolitano, adding, “They swooped in….with assault rifles aimed and ready and stole this guy’s property, they stole his cattle, they didn’t have the right to do that, that’s theft and they should have been arrested by state officials”.

It should have been handled this way. Fine, assess, place a lien and then seize. Clearly, the way it was done led to an awful scenario that could have gotten way out of control.

The sight of the man with the rifle in sniper pose is unsettling, to say the least.

FEDERAL ACQUISITION OF LAND WITHIN STATES

Does the federal government’s purchase of lands within the boundary of a state require the consent of the state legislature? If we are in a sovereign state, the answer is absolutely, yes! As a Constitutional Republic, if our elected representatives are not accountable and do not uphold our state sovereignty and individual liberties, then we are lost.

Although the Enclave Clause of the U.S. Constitution, Article I, section 8, clause 17 authorizes Congress to purchase, own and control land within the boundary of a state, it is very specific and limiting as to what type of lands the federal government can own and control within a given state. It also leaves no doubt that the state legislature has to relinquish control of those lands. The relevant portion of the Enclave clause reads:

Congress may exercise exclusive legislative "authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings;"

Can any agency of the federal government come into a state and purchase land without state authorization as any other buyer would? Is it a private property right for a property owner to sell to the federal government? A proper reading of the Enclave Clause shows the answer to both of these questions is, NO.

Had the founding fathers intended the federal government to have this authority they would never have included the Enclave provision in the Constitution. Had the people believed the constitution would allow the federal government to acquire any land it desired and displace the states authority they would never have allowed their state to ratify the Constitution. Clearly, issues other than private property rights must have been at stake, and those issues must have been of sufficient gravity to compel the founders to include this clause and for the people to accept it.

It used to be this way, but the Bolsheviks (they're in both parties) have taken over a while ago. Steve-O is proud.

Bundy doesn't want to pay the feds. Just the county (state). That is his rant.

Reid has deals to sell the public land to China, for a big payday for his family (when government and corporations are in business together, this is the definition of fascism).

I can't believe anyone is actually shocked over this.

This happens every day to many people. It only made news because of the Waco model action taken by the Federali's.

This is how it will end, unless the Feds are even dumber than I give them credit for....

They will let this guy get away with it and make some show about "not pursuing this issue", thus leaving it in a cease fire limbo.

In a year or two when noone is paying attention, they hit this ranch with everything they have and take him down before the news trucks can get there.

Game over.

There are a few other ranchers that are dealing with the same thing...without the media outcry.

Maybe the powers that be wanted this story publicized ala Trayvon Martin?

That would be a horrible ending.

I want the gratification of seeing his criminal ass behind bars.

Well, this is a classic ideological example of the battle between populists and statists.

It'll be fun to watch it play out.

This situation begs the question of whether or not the federal or even state government should own property beyond the buildings require.
