No doubt they would, I was stationed in Georgia...... amazed at both quality and the actual stadiums they sported. Haven't seen that since I left many years ago.

At least they weren't playing favorites.
Both sides got HORRIBLE calls. Even the oldbag knows the diff between illegal contact and pass interference. GAWD!!!

It's like bizzaro football - nothing like what I've ever seen before.

Not sure how long I can hang if this is all that's on offer ... :(

:Patriots!
"Playing favorites", as in "intentionally" - no. But it did kinda work out that way. Edelman gets knocked flat by a DB who's not even looking back toward the ball, makes a brilliant catch inside the BAL 10 in spite of that and gets called for OPI. Later, Smith stiff-arms a Pats DB out of his way to make a TD catch - TWICE - and gets no flag.

Phantom offenses killed Pats' drives and gave Ravens' drives new life.

But it wasn't just the Pats game. I've seen at least a half-dozen games in three freakin' weeks in which similar inconsistency on the part of the replacement officials hosed or nearly hosed one teams chances to the benefit of the other.

This guy wants everyone suspended for saying mean things about/to the refs. The Kyle Shanahan thing is a bit much since it was no longer on the field, but man... "Spikes went off on Twitter. SUSPEND HIM! Belichick grabbed an official while on the field trying to get an answer. SUSPEND HIM!"

A boycott is clear evidence that the NFL matters to fans The sad thing is, the owners are banking on it.

Why The NFL Owners Don’t Care About You. Refs Be Damned

Posted on

2 Votes

The replacement refs create major controversy after ruling Golden Tate — not M.D. Jennings — with possession in the end zone. (Getty Images)

The NFL referees are on a forced vacation and the Replacements are ruining the game for the fans. and the owners are scrambling……. or are they? The past 3 weeks in the early part of the 2012 NFL season have been nothing short of a gut wrenching, anger spewing mind-blowing series of frustrating moments. Fans all over have never seen more touchdowns called back, more blatant pass interference calls/not called and field goals made/not made. The NFL you would think would be running to the negotiation table with their hair on fire to get the full-time referees back. Think again. The NFL is a 9.5 billion dollar per year industry. The owners have the fans eating out of their hands like a deer that’s too tame for its’ own good. That’s what has happened and the NFL owners will get exactly what they want at the end of the day, your money and loyalty. The NFL isn’t just a football league or a platform for élite athletes to excel, it’s one of the largest businesses in the nation. The overall product that we all want seems tainted from a fan’s viewpoint. If you are an owner of one these teams the game couldn’t be better and it only looks to be on the up and up. The nation’s love for baseball has waned since the grip of steroids choked out any resemblance of honesty and hard work. Fans are looking for a new game. The NHL is locked out with no end in sight. More fans. Where do forlorn, starving fans go? The NFL is the answer and they are flocking in numbers never seen before.
The NFL made a record-breaking 9.5 billion dollars last year and if I were a betting man I’d put my money on bigger gains for the NFL again this year. But, what’s the real drive behind the delay in refs not coming back? You can argue that doesn’t care about the quality of the games and how they are called but, I doubt it. We’ll get back to in a minute. The NFL is a business first and foremost no doubt about it. The owners are looking to maximize their profit as much as possible. Wouldn’t you if you owned a business big or small? What if you had a chance to deliver your product which the public was clamoring for with cheaper workers who weren’t as efficient but, cost you less and were demanding less incentives? What if you could cram a bit more profit in your back pocket with only slightly diluting your product? Now imagine by doing so you created an uproar over the national media, social media and all sports outlets? Would you do it? Regardless of what your answer is the NFL’s answer is an emphatic yes. Can you blame them?
Speaking of blame, is the least liked commissioner and leader since George Bush in New Orleans. That being said, the ref debacle isn’t on his shoulders, it is on the owners. in all his splendor and arrogance is still a puppet for the owners. Somewhere in the back of my mind I have an image of being jerked around like Pinocchio saying “One day I’ll be a real commissioner”. I’d love to tell you it’s all ’s fault. I’d love to tell you that the owners care. I’d love to tell you that the Replacements will be gone by Sunday. But, that’s all a pipe dream. It’s not all ’s fault. The Replacements will still be here come Sunday and the owners are strangely quiet throughout all of this. Why should they say something? Integrity of the game? HA! Integrity of the owners’ wallet. They have never been fatter than before and why mess with a good thing? Everyone is talking about the NFL. The referees are cheaper. The fans are still coming and last time I checked this will still be the most profitable season ever.

Here's a thought. Instead of buying products that sponsor the NFL, put that money into your won retirement fund. I am going to do that now. Instead of buying a case of Bud Light for the game next week, I am going to put that money into an IRA. If the NFL won't help the refs out with their retirement, I'll just help myself out.

I still think the best way to get the NFL's attention is to flood the game sponsor's inboxes with messages at least threatening a boycot of their products. Get these sponsors to pressure the NFL to resolve the issue.

My football team has me on Friday night already. It's been a tradition with them since my dad coached them in the late 70s-2002. Ive been working there since 2001. I think I'm going to start weekend tutoring again. Not going to plan Sunday's menu on Thursday. Not icing down beer on Saturday night. Not buying extra snacks. Not turning down brunch at some frufru artsy-fartsy Eggs Benedict eatery.

**** em. **** this shit.

I will, however, be here everyday to bitch about the situation.

Some of the more high-profile "Official Sponsors" of the NFL:

Marriott
Verizon
VISA
Papa John's
FedEx
GM
Gatorade
Pepsi
Bud Light (Anheuser-Busch)

We should begin inundating these companies with letters (typed letters, snail-mailed, are proven far more effective at getting attention than emails) indicating our intent to boycott their products for the duration. Letters to newspaper editors will also help (especially including the list of sponsors).

BTW - this isn't just a Patriots thing at all. Where I work, there are fans of the Jets, Fins, Giants, Colts, Packers, Skins. These are just those I know of for certain. These fans are passionate in their support for their team, enough so that football discussions are mostly kept to a minimum at work in the service of maintaining a congenial atmosphere. However, today, NO ONE could stop talking about the execrable officiating and, unprompted, volunteered that they're seriously considering NOT watching the NFL, at least for awhile.

The point being that the dissatisfaction is rampant, but unorganized. I suspect that it wouldn't take much to get a huge ball rolling here if folks find out that there are a whole bunch of others out there who are feeling the same way. So, publicity, publicity, publicity.

I've begun the campaign in my neck of the woods. We have Saints, Texans, Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Patriots, 49ers, and Bears in my wing alone. With over 200 employees, I think I can conjure up support for every single team.

And we know how to write letters!

Personally, I hope a lot of fans boycot/strike and don't go to games. I'd like to go to the Bill's game and it would be easier to get tickets.

Of course, many of us have already paid for those tickets, so who's really being hurt if we don't show up?

Most of the politicians that we elect will get pensions for their part time jobs.

Try and take any of their pensions away and see what happens.

After thinking about it since Monday morning I've decided to boycott the NFL this week.

This includes Pats-Buffalo.

I've seen every Pats game I could for about 45 years and never skipped one on purpose. It hurts a bit to take this step, but it's really all I can do. I'm not even going to DVR it. The NFL will just have to survive without me.

I've been increasingly critical of Roger's version of NFL football for a few years now. The replays, the rule changes, kickoffs and constant interruptions to the game, but I was able to ignore it to find the parts of it that I love.

Not this. I'm out.

For this week at least, I'm out and I'll be way up in the Maine woods next weekend, so really it'll be two weeks. Then, I'll see what the league does to fix this crazy train that has gone off the rails and I'll decide whether to procede.

So far, the silence is deafening.

It's not really necessary to write letters to NFL sponsors. Much easier just to tweet about it with the hashtag #nflboycott
