Two graphs explain it all. See below.

From here

Fossil Fuels produced 87.14% of the energy consumed in 2016.

Wind, Solar, and "other" renewables produced 1.22%.

If you look at the GDP vs energy use graph, it is essentially a linear relationship.

Drop your energy consumption and you'll drop your GDP.

The simple math is that one cannot replace fossil fuels with wind and solar to any great extent.

Assume that one increases both by an order of magnitude and they would only be at 12.2%

So that would mean that fossil fuels would provide 76.16% of the energy.

So the only possible way one could make significant reductions in fossil fuel use is to reduce energy consumption.

That will mean a reduction in GDP.

Yes, NOAA must adjust data — but its climate record really is quite wrong

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is the official U.S. government custodian of information on weather and climate. NOAA monitors both, and keeps records of both, and also tries to predict future changes. Climate is generally defined as a time average of weather, extending over at least a few weeks.

NOAA does a reasonable job on the weather, but has been subject to much criticism for its handling of climate and is often accused of “cooking the data” for ideological reasons, related to energy policy.

Once it is realized that CO2 has only minor effects, if any, on climate change, some of the criticism will disappear.

It is important for the public to gain some perspective on such changes before indulging in wild accusations. Equally important, NOAA must use more transparency and not only announce data adjustments, but explain them so that reasonable people of goodwill will understand.

Much of the current criticism is clearly unfair. NOAA must adjust climate data for many reasons.

When a weather station is moved, its prior values have to be adjusted and this extends at times to neighboring stations.

Another non-ideological reason for adjusting data is the poor location of some of the stations. Meteorologists Joseph D’Aleo and Anthony Watts have documented such examples; NOAA tries to keep track of them.

Some of the changes occur naturally. For example, trees grow up or are cut down, and the wind pattern changes at the weather station thermometer. Or, an airport opens up nearby and the traffic pattern changes in the vicinity.

On the other hand, some of the criticism is justified. I cite two instances:

First, there has been no change reported in surface temperatures since about the year 2000, indicating no current warming. This so-called “pause” (or hiatus) has generated much controversy. It suggests that CO2 has little influence on the planet’s climate change, and it affects energy policy in a profound way.

In June 2015, just weeks before the Paris Conference and before the U.S. presidential election, NOAA produced a “scientific paper” that suggested the so-called temperature “pause” was an illusion. The National Climate Data Center (NCDC), part of NOAA, published a paper in Science magazine that attempted to explain away the existence of the temperature “pause.”

Not many people really believed that NCDC’s work was correct. But, the editor of Science went to great lengths to promote the paper, issuing a press release and giving the NCDC paper special handling.

All this is history. The Paris Climate Accord negotiated in December 2015 and signed in April 2016 had no teeth and may be considered a failure. Now the United States under President Trump has officially withdrawn from the Paris Accord.

Science magazine had “egg on its face.” Its editor went on to another prestigious position, as president of the National Academy of Sciences. While the NCDC paper could be considered “a tempest in the teapot,” it had no lasting effect. Any criticism of NOAA was automatically transferred to criticism of President Trump.

More serious, perhaps, is the continued failure of NOAA to recognize that its climate record is really quite wrong. This official record shows a warming at the beginning of the 20th century and also at the end. The first warming is genuine, the second warming is an artifact, based on an incomplete analysis of all of the available data.

Second, while the warming may exist in the surface record of weather stations, it does not exist in the atmospheric record. In fact, the gap between model results based on increasing CO2 and the atmospheric observations is continuing to grow. Scientists are at a loss in trying to explain the puzzling ineffectiveness of CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

Could it be that CO2 is not warming the climate at all? It is a topic that bears investigation. NOAA has not tackled this problem, likely because of ideological reasons. NOAA probably considers CO2 as a “pollutant.” It has been slow to change, in spite of scientific evidence to the contrary.

There is still a discrepancy and disagreement between NOAA’s surface record and all other records of temperature in the last decades of the 20th century.

NOAA’s own radiosonde network shows no warming. All other data — including proxy data, such as tree rings, ice cores, ocean and lake sediments — show no warming between 1977 and 1997. NOAA does analyze the atmospheric temperature data as obtained by NASA satellites, but has taken no action to explain the deficiencies of the surface record.

We conclude that the reported surface warming does not really exist but is an artifact of instrumentation changes. We can summarize this essay by stating that NOAA does a reasonable job on weather — although some would argue that point — but they can do a much better job on climate.

The Truth is Out There....just not at the NOAA.

Notice how you just don't hear the left beating the climate war drums like they used to?

It's hard when the data and the "Settled science" do not agree.

They'll be back, though, in full force at the first heat wave. The advertising campaigns and propaganda are always well targeted to the location of the heat wave in question. Propaganda money just doesn't get the same bang when targeting people wearing jackets in July.

HALLELUJAH!!!

FINALLY! The data will be public, and peer reviewable! I hope this means the raw data as well.

HOLY CRAP!

Talk about dealing a killing blow to the New Religion, the Poisonous Pseudo-Scientific Superstition of AGW, the Chosen State Sanctioned Cult Worship of leftists and globalists everywhere!

Good Lord, no wonder the leftists are going ape shit over Pruitt!

In days gone by...the church wanted to keep the people illiterate and ignorant, so that they would be reliant on the church to interpret the Bible and the priests could make them do anything they wanted as the arbiters of "the Will of God", and thus benefitted from it in power and wealth for generations.

Today, it is the globalists that want to keep the people scientifically illiterate and keep the science and data secret so that the people remain reliant on the New Priests of Global Warming to interpret the data for them and dictate to them The Will of the Earth, thus gaining all the associated power and wealth over the provincial twits who do not see the Greater Wisdom and Good of Global Heirarchies controlling all of the people and resources of the world, without regard for borders and provincial princes and peoples.

YES!

Today, the People will be able to read and interpret the Biblical Data on their own, without need or regard for the New Priests of the Church of AGW.

Today..is a GREAT DAY!

Time to end secret science at EPA

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt — clearly determined to do the job President Trump assigned to him, no matter how hard his political opponents may be hitting him — this week took a bold step toward ending the EPA’s use of the “secret science” on which too many regulations are based. Not surprisingly, the professional environmental left has gone crazy, screaming that the sky is falling, and he must be stopped at all costs. Also not surprisingly, their objections are notable more for their volume than for their logic.

What did Pruitt do? He proposed a new rule that would require the scientific studies used by his agency to be available for public inspection and be able to be reproduced. “It is a codification of an approach that says as we do our business at the agency the science that we use is going to be transparent, it’s going to be reproducible, it’s going to be able to be analyzed by those in the marketplace,” said Pruitt. “And those who watch what we do can make informed decisions about whether we’ve drawn the proper conclusions or not.”

Wait. What? That’s it? The head of an agency with a history of imposing regulations that cost consumers tens of billions of dollars, that often make health outcomes worse rather than better, and that stand logic on its head, is now being pilloried for announcing that from this point forward, his agency will follow the scientific method?

Just last week, the National Association of Scholars released a new report on the irreproducibility crisis of modern science. Their report examines the different aspects of what is commonly referred to as the “replication crisis,” and offers 40 recommendations that would realign scientific research with the pursuit of truth rather than the implementation of partisan, political mandates.

It’s a testament to how messed up is the Washington swamp that his announcement has been met with such wailing and gnashing of teeth. That a decision based on common sense would send the Swamp into such a frenzy proves it’s the Swamp, not Pruitt, that’s crazy. Next thing you know, the head of the Union of Concerned Scientists will stage a formal rending of garments outside EPA headquarters, and his event will be covered by all the mainstream media outlets.

Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But it’s really not too far off from the truth – on Monday, before Pruitt even made his announcement, the Union of Concerned Scientists sent a letter signed by almost 1,000 scientists bemoaning the decision. In my high school chemistry class, I was taught that there were seven steps to what was called “the scientific method” — make an observation; conduct research; form a hypothesis; test the hypothesis; record the data; draw a conclusion; and replicate.

Apparently, it’s that last item on the checklist — being able to replicate the experiment — that has the professional left in tears. Why? Because for decades they’ve been issuing regulations based on scientific “experiments” that couldn’t be replicated. “Science” that can’t be replicated isn’t “science.” It’s “theory.” It may be an interesting theory, it may be an exciting theory, it may be a noteworthy theory, but in the end, it’s just that … it’s a theory, nothing more.

And the Environmental Protection Agency isn’t the only federal agency with a history of issuing rules and regulations based on “secret science.” If Pruitt can reform the EPA by doing away with “secret science,” this could be just the first step in reforming the way other federal agencies operate, too.

Pruitt’s determination to base EPA regulations on science that can be replicated is a threat to the established order. Grant money is at stake, along with the issuance of new rules. For the professional environmental left, Pruitt’s announcement is a declaration that the rules of the game have changed. It’s like announcing that from this point forward, referees will call penalties on both teams. No wonder Pruitt is drawing such negative attention from Democrats and the mainstream media. They’re not worried he’ll fail. They’re worried he’ll succeed.

http://thehill.com/opinion/energy-en...science-at-epa

NO WONDER the leftists are losing their fucking minds! This is a direct assault on their religion and faith! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The Danger of Environmentalism

by Michael Berliner | 13 Apr 2018
The Danger of Environmentalism

Earth Day approaches, and with it a grave danger faces mankind. The danger is not from acid rain, global warming, smog, or the logging of rain forests, as environmentalists would have us believe. The danger to mankind is from environmentalism.

The fundamental goal of environmentalism is not clean air and clean water; rather, it is the demolition of technological/industrial civilization. Environmentalism’s goal is not the advancement of human health, human happiness, and human life; rather, it is a subhuman world where “nature” is worshipped like the totem of some primitive religion.

In a nation founded on the pioneer spirit, environmentalists have made “development” an evil word. They inhibit or prohibit the development of Alaskan oil, offshore drilling, nuclear power–and every other practical form of energy. Housing, commerce, and jobs are sacrificed to spotted owls and snail darters. Medical research is sacrificed to the “rights” of mice. Logging is sacrificed to the “rights” of trees. No instance of the progress that brought man out of the cave is safe from the onslaught of those “protecting” the environment from man, whom they consider a rapist and despoiler by his very essence.

Nature, they insist, has “intrinsic value,” to be revered for its own sake, irrespective of any benefit to man. As a consequence, man is to be prohibited from using nature for his own ends. Since nature supposedly has value and goodness in itself, any human action that changes the environment is necessarily immoral. Of course, environmentalists invoke the doctrine of intrinsic value not against wolves that eat sheep or beavers that gnaw trees; they invoke it only against man, only when man wants something.

The ideal world of environmentalism is not twenty-first-century Western civilization; it is the Garden of Eden, a world with no human intervention in nature, a world without innovation or change, a world without effort, a world where survival is somehow guaranteed, a world where man has mystically merged with the “environment.” Had the environmentalist mentality prevailed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, we would have had no Industrial Revolution, a situation that consistent environmentalists would cheer–at least those few who might have managed to survive without the life-saving benefits of modern science and technology.

Cartoon Cox and Forkum.

The expressed goal of environmentalism is to prevent man from changing his environment, from intruding on nature. That is why environmentalism is fundamentally anti-man. Intrusion is necessary for human survival. Only by intrusion can man avoid pestilence and famine. Only by intrusion can man control his life and project long-range goals. Intrusion improves the environment, if by “environment” one means the surroundings of man–the external material conditions of human life. Intrusion is a requirement of human nature. But in the environmentalists’ paean to “Nature,” human nature is omitted. For environmentalism, the “natural” world is a world without man. Man has no legitimate needs, but trees, ponds, and bacteria somehow do.

They don’t mean it? Heed the words of the consistent environmentalists. “The ending of the human epoch on Earth,” writes philosopher Paul Taylor in Respect for Nature: A Theory of Environmental Ethics, “would most likely be greeted with a hearty ‘Good riddance!'” In a glowing review of Bill McKibben’s The End of Nature, biologist David M. Graber writes (Los Angeles Times, October 29, 1989): “Human happiness [is] not as important as a wild and healthy planet . . . . Until such time as Homo sapiens should decide to rejoin nature, some of us can only hope for the right virus to come along.” Such is the naked essence of environmentalism: it mourns the death of one whale or tree but actually welcomes the death of billions of people. A more malevolent, man-hating philosophy is unimaginable.

The guiding principle of environmentalism is self-sacrifice, the sacrifice of longer lives, healthier lives, more prosperous lives, more enjoyable lives, i.e., the sacrifice of human lives. But an individual is not born in servitude. He has a moral right to live his own life for his own sake. He has no duty to sacrifice it to the needs of others and certainly not to the “needs” of the nonhuman.

To save mankind from environmentalism, what’s needed is not the appeasing, compromising approach of those who urge a “balance” between the needs of man and the “needs” of the environment. To save mankind requires the wholesale rejection of environmentalism as hatred of science, technology, progress, and human life. To save mankind requires the return to a philosophy of reason and individualism, a philosophy that makes life on earth possible.

Climate Change Could Mean Trouble For Skiers In NH
Written by Michael Casey on December 16, 2017 1:27 pm.
fShare

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — In the coming decades, skiers and snowmobilers in New England may endure winters with only a handful of snow days, and the dog days of summer may become the new normal.

Those are just a few of the findings from a study out this month in the journal Ecology and Society that examined the impacts of rising carbon emissions. Focusing their research in the Merrimack River watershed in south-central New Hampshire, a research team led by scientists at the University of New Hampshire found that snow days could decline by mid-century from 60 to 18, while there could be as many as 45 summer days when temperatures soar above 90 degrees — compared with 10 currently.

The study also found that there would be an increased risk of flooding at mid-century and a steep decline in stream habitat, resulting in 40 percent becoming uninhabitable for cold-water fish favored by fishermen, like trout.

"Starting in about 20 or 25 years from now, that is where we see a noticeable shift. ... The implication is that things are really going to change at that point," Wilfred Wollheim, a co-author on the study and an associate professor in the university's Department of Natural Resources and the Environment.

"How people in New Hampshire and visitors use the environment may have to change," he said. "If people come for snow sports, it is going to be different compared to now— even though we already are seeing some of the effects of climate change. They will become more consistent and extreme starting mid-century."

"Starting in about 20 or 25 years from now, that is where we see a noticeable shift. ... yeah and the experts like al gore said the polar ice caps would melt by 2012 and carl sagan said we were in for an ice age in 1973. this is not science as sagan said in a lecture i saw at Plymouth state college in NH. rather it is a love for Gaia, mother earth. man is a disease that must be eradicated. that is the basis for environmentalism. the death of man. this has been going on since the dark ages just different reasons. in the dark ages the church preached man was evil because of of his original sin. now our original sin is exploiting the earth which is ours to take and science and technology have all all the answers for environmental problems. science is being being thrown back to the days of the cardinals who damned ice cubes and vaccinations as evil cuz god didn't create them

i have news for those that feel man is a disease. man is the only creature on earth that truly creates his own world and by doing so he betters it if capitalism and free markets reign supreme.

From the piece you posted: "That is why environmentalism is fundamentally anti-man."

I think I'll go with the environmentalists. With them we might be able to keep skiing Wildcat.

1) Al Gore is no expert.
2) Citation needed.
