How does my statement have anything to do with the Schiavo case and/or my opinion with regards to it?

Did you ever ask me my opinion on that case?

My thoughts on Global Warming are these:

We're screwed. There are too many stupid people out there who believe Conservative bullshit on this issue. So I'm just gonna live my life and when I wake up one day underwater I'll smile just a little bit before I drown, knowing how many Conservatives are drowning with me, then a sadness will come over my face, knowing how many Liberals are drowning with me.

The politicians will use any reason to control the general population. Do you see any of them doing a goddam thing to limit "global warming", hell no they all are chauffered around in huge limos, have multiple homes and travel in private jets all owned by large corporations who pay them off by donating lots of cash. They are all frauds and crooks every damn one of them.

What I honestly can't believe is that some people refuse to believe global warming exists!

I know a guy who continues to disregard global warming as some crackpot theory with no real support. He likes to mention that "the Earth has had very hot years before". It's just too bad he doesn't seem to understand that trends make it quite obvious that the planet is gradually warming and isn't stopping any time soon.

Case in point, I live in Eastern Canada and while it isn't the coldest or snowiest part of the country it certainly gets quite cold here usually. I've lived here for 6 years and every year we've had snow on the ground from about October until March with temperatures around -20C to -35C. This year, we've had maybe two snowfalls, both of which disappeared quickly, and we had no snow on Christmas. For about 2-3 weeks now it has rained and been mildly warm without snow.

For my region, and Canada in general, this is a clear-cut indication of global warming and this guy I know still refuses to believe it. I may not be a huge fan of freezing winters but when I wake up in the middle of January and I can walk outside with nothing but a long sleeved t-shirt, I get a little concerned.

I hope the governments and corporations will wake up and help slow this problem down before it is too late. It is already obvious that the planet is warming quicker than scientists originally assumed it would.

The issue isn't if the climate is changing, the issue is what is the cause of it.

The climate is always changing, it has through out the history of the Earth, so there's no reason to claim it isn't changing now.

There are plenty of people who insist that the present change is due to man's activities, this is commonly referred to as Anthropomorphic Global Warming (AGW).

It is man's contribution that is being questioned, that is, how much of the change in climate is due to man's activities and how much is due to the natural causes that have been responsible for climate change over the history of the Earth.

The AGW advocates dismiss the natural causes and claim that it is man's activities that dominate the climate.

IMHO, their arguments are not convincing.

Consider the following pieces of information.

From the 1500's to the 1800's the world was in

the Little Ice Age

That was a period of colder climate, compared to what had preceded it.

That period ended in the mid 1800's and so the Earth's climate has been warming since then.

So when people talk about the warming that has occurred since the beginning of the industrial age, they are talking about warming from a cooler period.

How much of that warming is due to the earth simply returning to a climate similar to what it was like before the Little Ice Age?

Scientists don't know exactly why the Little Ice Age occurred in the first place, and so aren't really sure why it ended.

Yet the AGW advocates would have us believe that all of the warming since the 1800's is due to greenhouse gas emissions.

If you don't know how the natural factors work, how can you say any given factor dominates?

The Global Warming hype isn't anything new, in 1975 Newsweek published an article warning of a coming disaster due to global cooling.

In fact, if you look at the temperature profiles for the 20th century it warms up until the late 40's, falls to the mid 70's, and then warms again.

This is about a 35 year cycle.

This also happens to be the exact cycle of the
North Atlantic Oscillation

So how much of the observed warming of the past 30 years is due to the NAO?

As far as you experience this winter, that is due to the strong El Nino that is presently occurring.

So why must there be some man-made explanation for these events, when natural cyclical events explain most of what is happening?

Toss in the stronger Sun, I mentioned above, and why should anyone be surprised that things are warmer today, in the North Atlantic Basin, than they were 30 years ago?

Why must these changes be due to the release of greenhouse gases (GHG's)?

There is no doubt that the additional GHG's contribute to warming, but by the same token the tee shirt you wear contributes to your keeping warm along with the shirt and down parka you wear.

The AGW advocates claim the GHG's are the down parka and their evidence for it is very slim.

If global warming is so bad, why do most people go to the beach for their holidays?

Granted, the hole in the ozone layer causes me no end of sleepless nights, but if we are to believe hollywood, there is going to be another ice age just around the corner. Surely global warming is a proactive step in preparing for the inevitable?

I'm off to buy an 8 litre SUV, I'm prepared to do my bit to counteract the ice age. Are you?

The Weather Channel Mess
January 18, 2007 | James Spann | Op/Ed

Well, well. Some “climate expert” on “The Weather Channel” wants to take away AMS certification from those of us who believe the recent “global warming” is a natural process. So much for “tolerance”, huh?

I have been in operational meteorology since 1978, and I know dozens and dozens of broadcast meteorologists all over the country. Our big job: look at a large volume of raw data and come up with a public weather forecast for the next seven days. I do not know of a single TV meteorologist who buys into the man-made global warming hype. I know there must be a few out there, but I can’t find them. Here are the basic facts you need to know:

*Billions of dollars of grant money is flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon. No man-made global warming, the money dries up. This is big money, make no mistake about it. Always follow the money trail and it tells a story. Even the lady at “The Weather Channel” probably gets paid good money for a prime time show on climate change. No man-made global warming, no show, and no salary. Nothing wrong with making money at all, but when money becomes the motivation for a scientific conclusion, then we have a problem. For many, global warming is a big cash grab.

*The climate of this planet has been changing since God put the planet here. It will always change, and the warming in the last 10 years is not much difference than the warming we saw in the 1930s and other decades. And, lets not forget we are at the end of the ice age in which ice covered most of North America and Northern Europe.

If you don’t like to listen to me, find another meteorologist with no tie to grant money for research on the subject. I would not listen to anyone that is a politician, a journalist, or someone in science who is generating revenue from this issue.

In fact, I encourage you to listen to WeatherBrains episode number 12, featuring Alabama State Climatologist John Christy, and WeatherBrains episode number 17, featuring Dr. William Gray of Colorado State University, one of the most brilliant minds in our science.

WeatherBrains, by the way, is our weekly 30 minute netcast.

I have nothing against “The Weather Channel”, but they have crossed the line into a political and cultural region where I simply won’t go.

Question OT: Global warming zealots strangely silent as temps fail to break 32 degrees

And if you think it was cold this morning, wait until tonight, wind chills will have it be minus degrees.

Where's Al Gore now?

30 years ago they were all saying that the same conditions were bringing on a new ice age.

Gore's probably out in a pasture sniffing cow farts.
