The big hurdles for the Browns are to develop a winning attitude and the mental toughness to overcome the lack of experience in winning the biggest games. The Browns have talent but none of that talent has actually experienced an NFL team with a winning mindset. OBJ will help a bit but his Giants didn't win anything great either. I think Mayfield is and will continue be a great NFL player; it's possible he can lead them deep into the playoffs but in my mind the lack of player and coaching experience are both lacking to pull them through.

Their schedule to begin the season is tough & has 3 prime time games early.
1. Titans (toss up leaning to a L)
2. at JETE MNF (W but barely beat the Jete last year)
3. Rams SNF (L)
4. at Ravens (toss up leaning to a L)
5. at 49ers MNF (toss up since it's away on Monday night)
6. Seahawks (toss up leaning to a L)
7. bye
8. at Patriots (L)
9. Broncos (toss up)

Look at their first 4 home games. 3-1, 1-3 or 2-2? Browns fans have unrealistically high expectations and a few early unexpected losses to the Titans, JETE and Ravens could bring out wide spread negativity and anger that could make the whole thing unravel. Heck, they could be 2-6 by the half way point with losses to the Titans, Rams, Ravens, Seahawks, Pats & Broncos. Even if they beat the Titans and Broncos they're 4-4 and it doesn't get much easier the rest of the way.

10. Bills (W but it won't be easy)
11. Steelers TNF (toss up leaning to a W)
12. Dolphins (W)
13. at Steelers (L)
14. Bengals (W)
15. at Cardinals (W - but hoo boy this one will be fun)
16. Ravens (toss up leaning to a W)
17. at Bengals (W)

Getting to the playoffs is a pretty big first hurdle. The Colts did it last year but the Browns didn't. Baby steps. To me 9-7 wouldn't be a failed year and 10-6 with a playoff berth would be an outstanding step forward. For Browns fans anything less than 11-5 & a playoff win would be a disaster. Most Browns fans are actually expecting at least 12 wins (http://www.barkinghard.com/forums/sh...r-Browns-2019&). Talent wise maybe but the lack of team culture is a big hurdle to overcome.

The Colts will be the Pats dancing partner in next year's AFCCG, not KC. I expect a slide back for the Chiefs (and Mahomes).

For all his amazing abilities, he doesn't rid himself of the ball as does Tom. I suspect the world will go after him with a vengeance this year.

Maybe.

Cheers

I wonder about the Colts. They had made excellent strides.

But that playoff loss. Wow. They were just anemic. Manhandled in every facet. Such a weak showing. Really pathetic. There DNA may have become corrupted yet again.

I'm thinking Pats/Chargers, myself. KC's slide gives the Chargers an extra win.

Anything better than 8-8 would be a good sign...10-6 sounds about right.

The Browns are my breakout team.

Good point. The Colts made the hurdle to the playoffs last year and even though they flamed out, the culture is locked in. Their offensive line is really good and they added some excellent talent this year. I expect them to make the playoffs again.

KC is interesting to me since Andy Reid let some good talent go on the defensive side and their defense was already lacking. Their playoff mindset is already in place so expectations are high. But what happens if other teams are able to execute the same defensive plan as the Bears & Patriots against them. They'd better be ready for constant pressure on Mahomes bc it's definitely coming all season long from every opponent they face. They still have a very good team (unless Hill gets suspended) but they aren't sneaking up on anybody this year. It won't be as easy for Mahomes this year. Like they say, it's hard to reach the top but it's even harder to stay there.

The Colts last playoff game either looked like they were told to flop or they aren't really all that legit.

The Chefs best chance...and the Rams (NFC) happened last year.

Agree.

And to brush off that playoff loss? Against a 31 ranked D? Weíre not talking 2000 Ravens here. They couldnít do shit.

To just ignore that and think everything is cheeky is just foolish imo. Thatís the kind of loss that breaks an organization.

I think that division will beat eachother up by the end. The Colts appear to be loaded on paper and their division is pretty soft. I don't give Indy a shot in hell of winning here in January, but I think they'll be there in the end.

I think all the AFC divisions, except the AFCE, beat each other up. I think the Colts will win the south, but have a lower seed than the Chargers and won't advance.

Jacksonville will be solid, as should Houston and Tennessee. Itís not as soft as the AFC East.
