1st Pot Shops In Mass. Opening Tuesday 11/20/18

JUST IN: Cannabis Control Commission gives OK for recreational marijuana sales in Mass. next week. https://trib.al/QFSiV1b

At 4:20 p.m. on Friday, the Cannabis Control Commission announced that it had given the OK for retail sales to begin at the state's first two pot shops — Cultivate in Leicester and New England Treatment Access in Northampton — in three calendar days. Both companies were awarded final licenses for recreational sales last month.
"Cultivate is honored that we will be making history Tuesday by selling the first legal recreational cannabis in Massachusetts, New England and east of the Mississippi," Sam Barber, CEO and founder of Cultivate, said in a statement.
"We at New England Treatment Access will be honored to be a part of Massachusetts history when we open our doors for adult sales of legal cannabis in Northampton, Massachusetts, next Tuesday," Kim Napoli, a representative of that store said at a press conference. "We would like to thank the Cannabis Control Commission for their thoughtful and thorough approach to the rollout of adult-use cannabis."

A third retailer, Pharmacannis Massachusetts in Wareham, was approved for recreational sales this month. It was not clear when that store would open. The recreational use and sale of marijuana, for adults 21 and older, was legalized in the Bay State by a ballot initiative just over two years before the first two openings.

Originally, officials aimed for sales to begin in January of 2018. Legislators pushed that date back six months, to July 1. As that date came and went, many hurdles remained; notably, licenses for recreational testing labs were not awarded until October. Those labs were allowed to begin testing products this month following inspections.

"This signal to open retail marijuana establishments marks a major milestone for voters who approved legal, adult-use cannabis in our state," Chairman Steven Hoffman of the commission said in a statement. "To get here, licensees underwent through background checks, passed multiple inspections, and had their products tested, all to ensure public health and safety as this new industry gets up and running."
As Cultivate geared up for regular sales, the store provided some tips for first-time marijuana dispensary customers.
Industry leaders have projected sales of $1.8-$5 billion annually, according to the Associated Press.

Thereís been about 1000% increase in that already, since the legalization vote.

For some reason Joe Public is confusing the fact that minor possession was tolerated vs puffing huge blunts while operating a 3000 lb death machine is acceptable. To conceal the entire operation they also generally have a poor taste in music pumped through a craptastic system at volume 11.

I work in the the town center of Americaís Hometown. Nice friendly mile long strip accommodating to a slow cruise and look at me mentality. If I sit on the front steps for 20 mins Iíll likely get 3-5 cars that go by cropdusting with mad skunk. I like the smell. Iím not a fan of the vehicle operation aspect. I cannot for the life of me fathom why OUIs havenít bumped tenfold, specifically with pot.

In Colorado, the law enforcement community was lobbying back in 2014 for at least some of the pot tax to be allocated to the Coppers for training and equipment to get D-W-High folks off the road.

I don't know how much of that money they actually got, but the Colorado DOT page claims that most Coppers have gone through advanced training to spot high drivers.

It might take a year or two for Massachusetts to catch up.

I'm really curious to see what it's like to walk into a LEGAL weed store.

As a regular smoker back in the day and a couple-times-a-year guy now I feel like I know almost nothing about what to expect.

Should I get the Ghost Train haze or go with something a little more subtle?

Since getting high is an utterly subjective experience, how am I supposed to take the product reviews as anything other than random nonsense?

This one will enhance creativity. That one will help to numb the pain from watching your QB running like a baby deer on ice. Another one gives you boundless energy and a sunny disposition.

All the extracts and edibles and squirtables are even more inscrutable, but overall I'm OK with the changes and think this could be both a benefit to the economy and provide most sane people with a reasonably benign outlet that is less harmful to their health than alcohol or harder drugs.

It's the right thing to do and once folks get used to the idea it'll be fine.

Thanks for the links. I've been curious about that.

From what I could see on the menu you can now buy an ounce of very potent stuff for 350 bucks, so, from what I understand, it's not like the price of legal weed has been jacked up much from the stuff you bought last month from your brother's co-worker. Or whomever.

Can anybody confirm that? The last time I bought an ounce decades ago it was 45 bucks, but things are decidedly different now.

I expected the prices to be dramatically higher.

Here in NH I buy an ounce of high quality for $300 from my friends but $350 is pretty damn good considering the selection you have and all the taxes and regulations MA took 2 years to implement.

Back in the day an ounce of commercial weed was $200 and the stuff now is far far superior. So, fair price I'd say.

Edit. I just looked at their price list and $350 for for an ounce of green with 26% THC is a really good price.

As far as figuring out what to buy their are 2 types of weed and many hybrids. What one buys depends on what you're looking for. Indica is more calming, relaxing type and Sativa is more energetic. Some strains create great euphoria, some some great stress relief etc.

Modern technology permeating all facets of life.

As a HS senior I had 1/4 lbs on a regular basis.

Now thereís different strains, hybrids, edibles, waxes, tinctures, oils, vapes. Oi vay.

Iíll be in the fake glasses, big nose, mustache thing at the counter of a quiet store getting my knowledge on. Hopefully by a hottie.
