I see your issue.

You're stuck on the individuals exploiting the market. This is going to sound harsh, but, those individuals are essential to a free market. Free markets operate on price signals...that tells them how much to produce and where to send it. Individuals that price gouge send an alarm bell across the entire economy that there is money to be made by the most efficient producers.

If a guy is charging $10 a mask, you can undercut him by selling at $8 a mask....then the second fastest producer comes in selling at $6, and so on down the line, until you end up with a surplus of masks, and generally speaking, that's going to be the guy that tried to sell at $10, he will have the most masks left that he wasn't able to sell.

BUT...you solved the problem of the shortage by exploiting greed to serve your needs.

Wow,man. Some serious carnage today employment wise. I don't mean just staying at home for a couple of weeks, I mean let go outright.

It's sad.

The company my wife works for had to let 6 people go (they are a small company) yesterday with the hope of bringing some of them back later on. In a way, and I hate to sound crass but some of those let go needed to go anyways and this was the perfect time to make it happen. 1 that was let go had been with the company for over 30 years and at 70+ years old, was the hardest worker of their crew.

Trump closing boarders with China was good. He should have closed those with Italy and other European countries earlier.

I actually am not that critical of Trump regarding this crisis; he continually makes stupid comments that he then either ignores or changes down the road, but that’s par for a man who has literally lied or “misspoken” thousands of times since he’s come into office.
So quick question : do you credit Obama for the phenomenal economic recovery that took place during his second term in office?

No. I’m more hung up on exploitation of a disaster and people that die as a result.

As far as unemployment?

Trump fires back after Obama claims credit for economic boom: 'Con job' | Fox News

February 17, 2020
Obama and his allies have long touted the impact of the $787 billion economic stimulus package, also known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The measure was passed and signed in February 2009 — about 14 months after the recession began in December 2007 and about eight months before the national unemployment rate peaked at 10 percent in October 2009.

TRUMP ECONOMY, THREE YEARS IN: WHAT THE NUMBERS SAY

The stimulus package was controversial at the time considering the size and scope of it, and its impact remains a matter of dispute. Obama officials, though, routinely credited the legislation with helping set the economy back on track following the historic recession, and claim it established the groundwork for economic gains under Trump.

Under the Obama administration, the unemployment rate fell steadily after reaching a high of 10 percent early in his first term, but it has continued to fall under Trump. The unemployment rate is currently at the lowest it's been in the last 50 years.

Meanwhile, the stock market has surged under Trump. According to a Fox Business analysis, the stock market grew 31 percent in the 807 trading days before Trump's election, but grew by 56 percent in the 807 trading days after it, up through the third anniversary of Trump's inauguration this January.

Also under the Trump administration, workers' wages rose, but according to the Fox Business analysis, had been rising slightly faster prior to Trump's first term.

Fox News' Erin McEwan contributed to this report.

Hind sight is always 20/20. People are going to abuse him no matter what. The WHO said on January 14 there was no evidence of human transmission. They tweeted it, it's still up. I mean the guy has to work with the info he had. China was lying to the world the whole time. And when he did restrict China travel, it was the same old -ist and -phobe name calling hysteria. Then more time passes and the same people spewing the -ist and -phobe now say he didn't do anything fast enough. The whole thing is amazing. The media is more focused on being woke than questioning facts and numbers they spoon feed us. I thought it was not possible for me to detest them even more than I do.. but it is possible.

Trump has done some things right, certainly. But all of those? Talk about giving undue credit.
Hey, if he can get the blame for the CDC bureaucracy delaying the development and deployment of test kits, then he can get the credit for what the DOE did.

That's the way it's always been POTUS gets credit and/or blame for anything the Executive branch does.

Saw this today from the John Hopkins Center for Health Security and the Nuclear Threat Initiative.

It's a Global Health Security Index and was prepared in 2019.

Countries are graded on six categories on a scale of 0 to 100.

The US ranks #1 overall and in 4 of the 6 categories.

It's interesting to see where Italy ranks in some of these categories.

It's over all score is #31 @ 56.2, compared to the US score of 83.5.

For the "prevention of the emergence or release of pathogens" they score 47.5 for #45. The US is #1 a@ 83.1.

For the "early detection & reporting for epidemics of potential international concern" they score 78.5 for #16. The US is #1 @ 98.2.

For "rapid response to and mitigation of the spread of an epidemic" they score 47.5, for #51. The US is #2 @ 79.7.

For "sufficient & robust health system to treat the sick & protect health workers" they score 36.8 for #54 The US is #1 @ 73.8

So the US scores twice as high as Italy on this criteria. So why do we think our health care system will mimic what has happened in Italy?

Here’s what pisses me off about the left; all you hear about Dr. Fauci is that he and Trump are at odds, that Fauci is on his way out because Trump resents him, etc.

From Fauci himself: “The president has listened to what I have said and to what the other people on the task force have said, when I have made recommendations he has taken them, he’s never countered or overridden me, the idea of just pitting one against the other is just not helpful,” Fauci stated.
