This is one of my favorite souvenirs, the ticket to the final regular season game in old Foxboro. As the stadium was being built, I would go to the corner of the old place to look at the progress and wonder what it would be like to sit in a real NFL stadium. Seems like yesterday, but it was 20 years ago.

Note CMGi Field on the picture.

Yup, that's when I went, too. One thing has always pissed me off about that draft party. Not the party itself-that was fine-it was my own usual brilliance, lol. I had a 2000 Patriots yearbook with me-it couldn't have been the 2001 one yet, as this was at the 2001 draft party. Some players were giving autographs at a couple of tables-you might remember that-and I got Adam Vinatieri's autograph in the yearbook, and some others (I've forgotten who else, Lee Johnson?). Yeah, I've forgotten who else, because I lost the yearbook there! I must've put it down, maybe had a couple of brews, and forgot about it, and then remembered I brought it....

Anyway, I'm sure Tom Brady was in that yearbook!

I was at that game, and then the opening game against the Steelers. Iíd have to dig somewhere in the attic to find the tickets though.

And I can remember alot of that game, like it was yesterday. I believe it was cold, but quite bearable, and it was a good game (pats clinched the division by beating Miami). During the game, I sat next to a Dolphin fan (he was a good guy). I must've been pretty psyched about the season and the game, because I kept playing around with the guy, saying "You're inconsequential"!

I've got a question for you...I'm pretty sure my seats were in section 308, but row 24 or something like that. My view was from around the 5 yard-line, way up of course, and near the opposing sideline (and the end zone), near the route 1 side of the stadium, if that makes sense. I'll put it this way-when Vinatieri attempted his long snow kick in the playoff game, it was on the other end of the field. but his game winner (against oakland in the snow) was on my end of the field-after Antowain Smith had his 'clinching' run, near the Patriots sideline.

Was that the view you had? I think I was in 308 in 2000 and 2001.

Section 308 was under the press box, about the 40 yd line. It was a damned good seat.

That was a great game! Against Cordell-they put his face up on the big screen a couple of times, and everybody loved that! One kind-of funny, weird thing. My seat was in section 322, row 2, seat 14 (in the corner of the end zone, on the non-lighthouse end). Anyway, I met the new people around me-(actually met some in the 2 exhibition games) and once in a while we felt drops of liquid coming down on us! It wasn't raining-we were saying it was like someone was pissing on us from way up.....

Another thing I remember-the Patriots opening up with a bunch of 4 and 5 receiver sets, and passed about the first 7 plays...ps-Brady had his first opening day start
ps-Brady started his first opening game, and won 31-14, if memory serves

Brady on Instagram showing pics of him watching the Falcons SB game. (same as I was) Great memories for us all, including TB.

There was a connection there that factored into Tom leaving as well. For the longest time he “settled” , in line with Bills philosophy of not paying market for weapons. But when the Matt Ryan’s and Deshaun Watson’s and Pat Mahomes are getting wr weapons in the high teens(in millions) Tom is having players he intuitively trusts and wins with jettisoned for a third or half that.

To be fair, all three teams that you listed drafted those WRs. Bill is terrible at that.

That gets them thru the first contract sure. But they all went to second contacts with MAJOR money. That was the point. Their paying crazy dough and Bill isnít paying anything at WR. Edelman is crazy given what heís produced and the toll heís paid.

But I donít think they ever hit free agency. Thatís a major difference. Sure, BB probably wouldnít have spring the big cash on them even if they did, but thatís how you build a well rounded team.

Alright, let’s make this super simple. All the guys I listed, plus many, many others, have at least one WR and likely more making north of $12-18 mil.

What was TBs last season like?

Career?

The only market guys I can remember was a year with Moss and a few with Gronk.

Gronk I think got paid the last year he was here or something, but yeah, except Edelman, if we had a top line receiver, he would probably leave at FA. I am not sure what Edelmans value was on the market.

No. Gronk was underpaid his last couple. He briefly set the bar for TEs a few years back and got a multi year and the security in it and then was immediately passed by Graham and others.
