Fantasy football

This year I joined a fantasy football league with the guys in my shop and 1 other shop and this is my first experience with it. I've got some good players on my team, Tom Brady, Gronk, Cam Newton, the Broncos defense, Eagle defense, TY Hilton, and a few others.

I'm kind learning this as I go but I recently had another player offer me a trade. He wants Cam for Melvin Gordon. I'm not sure what to do because several of my players all have byes at the same time (week 9) to include Gordon and that would leave me without a QB.

For those that participate in FF, what would you do?

Do not trade Melvin Gordon.

Edit:. Wait, is he offering Melvin Gordon?

Sounds like it to me.

Unlike real life RBs are generally more valuable in fantasy than QBs. Generally each week you can find a QB on the waiver wire who can be plugged in and get you a decent amount of points based on their matchup, the same can't be said for RBs. And if you have a #1 RB who's not in a committee in the backfield that's huge. I lost my first game this year and have since ripped off 5 straight wins because I have Leonard Fournette and that guy has been a beast for me, whereas Wentz was available on the Waiver Wire and I picked him up and since then he's given me 27 and 21 points.

If you need RB help and you have a player who's really under performing check and see if Chris Ivory is available, and if so pick him up in exchange for that guy. I just noticed that Fournette's injury may be worse than originally thought and Ivory could get the start if he can't go Sunday. Leave him on your bench and then check on Sunday when the inactives come out and see if Fournette is playing. If he isn't you could put Ivory in since the Jags basically have a scrub at QB.

Lol.......yes, he has Gordon and I have Newton, he wants Cam because his QB (Aaron Rodgers) is out for the year. This guy was also undefeated in our league until this weekend and I don't want to do him any favors. lol

I guess he thought better of the trade and cancelled it, then picked up Tyrod Taylor as his QB.

Just caught this.

With Brady your horse you should’ve pounced on Gordon and then just dropped your lowest ranked player for a waiver QB when TB is out Week 9.

You’ll learn.

You have to pounce on stupidity.

Yeah, learnin as I go for sure. I'm sure he'll be back to offer me another trade in a week or 2 and if it's Gordon i'll pounce on it.

I am a Fantasy Football veteran and big into it. Always willing to help if I can.

At any rate, it's helpful to know the scoring system to really evaluate things.

Mostly...

How many points is a passing TD?

How many yards rushing and receiving do you need to get a point?

Do you get points for a reception? Some leagues do not, some are .5 per reception, some are a full 1 point per reception. This stat is really important to know to evaluate trades and stuff.

1 point PPR league with .1 points per yard both recieving and rushing.

Just for the record, your league is very heavily weighted toward receiving. That's about the most points I've seen for receiving in a league, so expect the person with the best receivers to win the most.

By "receivers", I mean anyone who catches the ball a lot, running backs especially.

As a general rule, you really want running backs that you can rely on to make several catches a game. You want to avoid running backs that do not get receptions if you can.

Keep that in mind. YOUR league specifically will be determined by whoever has the most reliable receivers at running back and wideout. Every other position is probably streamable...replaceable with free agent pickups.

Feel free to trade any quarterback or ground pounder running back to get any player that catches a lot of balls.

For example, if you and I have the same receiver on our fantasy teams...he might get 10 pints for me, but something like 22 points for you. It's a huge difference.

If you have to decide on starting running backs and it's not an obvious choice, definitely go with the guy that will be more involved in the passing game over a battering ram, unless you feel strongly that you will miss some TD's.

That is my generic advice.

I did a season of FF years back- it was kind of fun and I did pretty well.
Talking smack with the others in the league was a good time.

However, sometimes wanting players from other teams to do well for my fantasy team started conflicting with my hatred of their real NFL teams and reduced my enjoyment of watching the games. It made my motivations 'impure'.

So, I abandoned FF and went the 'pure' hate route. Much better.

One of my primary demotivators for playing. In what alternate universe would I want to see EJF, Eli, any member of the Cowboys or the drama king play well?
