I don't even know how anyone can debate that Brady isn't the GOAT. It might be one of those cases where, once he hangs em up, those people will be better able to reflect on the greatness they witnessed .....

I really don't see anyone legitimately debating it. I mean Scott is a troll but the all time haters like Sharpe, Carter, Lewis, etc. have all admitted he is the GOAT. That win down 28-3 really left no argument at all. Not that there was much of one beforehand but he really did have to surpass Montana in many people's eyes and he did so in historic/dramatic fashion.

Swiped from footballoutsiders for DVOA fans (in this case, it's DYAR):

Quote:
Adding this game to his current 921 DYAR, Brady's on pace to break 1900 passing DYAR this year. In the previous ten years, that has been done 8 times by 4 players.

P. Manning (2013)
D. Brees (2011)
A. Rodgers (2011)
T. Brady (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012)

Two thoughts:
"On pace" statements are always suspect, although not so much after 9 games. It's likely he won't break 1900, but hitting 1900 is a realistic possibility.
Where the heck was this Brady since 2012?
Years that Manning hit 1,900 in his career: 2004, 2006, 2013. Once again nuanced stats belie the idea that Manning was the more prolific passer.

Two notes:

1) Brady is not the beneficiary of recently inflated DYAR. No one hit 1,700 in 2015 and Ryan didn't even hit 1,900 last year.

2) 1,900 is a bit of an arbitrary benchmark. Manning came within 20 of it two other times, 2000 and 2003, but including those years just evens the scales with Tom rolling toward another one. Not exactly what their respective reputations would lead you to believe.

This is the answer. I really hated(jealous of) Montana while he played. The SF/Cincy SB was the, and probably will be, the only time I rooted for Cincy. After Montana retired, I saw in retrospect how good he was. Until the last SB, I thought Montana still was in the discussion for GOAT(I thought TFB was the GOAT, but an argument could be made). When TFB retires, rival fans will be able to see better, when they do not have to see TFB suiting up against their team.

the argument is that Montana never lost a Super Bowl, and somehow if you extrapolate his accomplishments out to 3 more appearances he would have won all of them. Terry Bradshaw never lost a Super Bowl either...so...once again, the Montana argument is pretty senseless.

Then you also explain to them that an Olympic athlete with 5 gold plus 2 silver medals is better than one with just 4 golds. Then you start to smell the brain cells burning.

lol. Faulk's salty tears every February are delicious.

He is easily hater #1 and even HE said that if Brady got ring #5 he would be the best ever but I think he has since recanted. He just can't get over SB 36 and Martz shafting him.

Speaking of Montana, Brady's wins and stats both in regular season and post-season put Montana to shame. And remember he played in an era where Marino and Kelly and Elway were putting up monster numbers and none of them had the talent to work with that Montana had save for maybe Kelly on the offensive side of the ball.
