Weber is a great product.

A lot of the other manufacturers are excellent too. Where they come up short is the burners. Whatever grill anyone decides on purchasing my single most important question is are replacement burners readily available and possibly purchase them right then and there.

Fell for the Brinkman Home Depot special the last time around. The exterior SS is excellent. Not a blemish. 6 yrs old now. But I’ve replaced the “guts” twice. First time I waited too long and got fire failure. Found out the burners were on back order.

Not happy.

I've bought cheap grills, I've bought expensive grills.

No matter what I spend the insides rust out in 3 years and I have to replace either the "plumbing" or the whole grill.

I have a pretty decent grill out back. Got it at Sears back in the day. I clean it immediately after I cook, even before I eat, while it's still hot and I put a cover on it after it cools off. Had it about 8 years with no sign of slowing down.

The problem I have is with tailgate grills. I have a separate grill for tailgating and the wear and tear I put on it driving down the highway means I am replacing it every other year. Not sure if I am tying it down too tight or what (I do tend to strap it down very tightly) or if I should invest in a more sturdy grill. I'm afraid of a larger investment because I hate to put down a good chunk of change and still get like 15 games out of it. If I could be guaranteed a longer life I would invest, but ...... without that guarantee....

It was a Brinkman from Home Depot that I had that died. I made the mistake of buying the floor model (probably put together by some high school kid while listening to his music and playing Tomb Raider on his phone.)

After seeing all the input here and researching ourselves, we decided to not spend a lot and buy a dual fuel grill. I wanted the smoker attachment but was shot down. It was only $300 and offers her the flexibility to cook with gas while I will probably exclusively cook with charcoal. It was $300 and if it lasts us 4+ years, I'll be happy.

I have owned 2 Webers in the last 20 years, the Genesis and the Spirit e310. I replace the innards as needed.

Precisely why I stick to hundred dollar grills I can replace in 3 years.

So I'm guessing most people already know this, but one of the nice things about cast iron grates is if they get really gross you can stick in the oven during the clean cycle and get darn near everything gunked up off them.

You'll have to re-season the grates but that's easy as well.

Good point about the replacement burners. My last grill I replaced them with cast burners, was happy to get the permanent solution or so i thought. The next season the bottom of it rotted out. LOL

or light a nice fire and drop them in, does the same thing without chemicals.

I do this to my cast iron pans every now and then.

The oven clean cycle doesn't use chemicals. It just uses high levels of heat to turn anything not metal into ash

I re-read it after I posted but too lazy to change it. I still prefer the good old oak fire way of getting it back down to the bare grates - It might just be I like fire.
