With Doc's, we would have a glassed off room for ourselves. Noise wouldn't be an issue. But, we have to see how many people would be willing to commit. Remember, to use the room, we have to agree to ring up a total bill of $500 or more. The average person, between beverage and food can easily ring up $30+ for an afternoon.

For me, the big thing is the opening time of 1:30. I'll try to call them sometime this week to see if the opening time is set in stone. In the past couple of years, most people have show up after 1 anyways.

But, if we don't have enough people interested, it's a moot point. We have plenty of time to work it out.

I'm pinning this so we can start to get feedback.

I'm not a fan of the Outlaw. Thought it was too cramped. What's the status of the EndZone?

As far as Doc's is concerned, if we had a decent comittment of 20 or so, we'd have no problem with the minimum tab.
Brian--
If you don't mind me askin'--why aren't you a fan of "The Outlaw"?... We seemed to have PLENTY of room last year and it was much nicer (in my opinion), than at "The Endzone", the year before...
Personally, I am not comfortable with having to "reserve" a room for our gathering... For one thing--if we don't get 20+ people, then who is gonna suck up the cost? !?!?!... I did that for our original Draft Party, so I'm not prepared to do that again...
For another--If we are segretated into a room, we cannot intermingle with other Pats fans...
Both things are a negative, in my opinion...

I think that we had a GREAT turn-out last year and I hope to build upon that! There are places in the area, to stay, if anyone needs them and it was a CLEAN place to eat & drink... (unlike the Endzone...)

So, I am still in favor of going with "The Outlaw"...
p.s.--Mikie--if someone is too drunk to drive home and "hasta" stay at "The Endzone", then I don't think that they will be looking for a 5-Star kinda place, ya know?!...

Just my personal preference. I just didn't like the place. As far as mingling with other Pats fans? You have a much better chance of running into other Pats fans at a large place devoted to sports than you do at a small bar. The rooms are not completely segregated from the main bar. The wall is all glass and the door can be left open. People are free to walk around.

Majority will rule. If we don't have enough people willing to commit, then the private room wouldn't work. I could check with the club and see if they'd be willing to devote some of the screens to the draft. I don't know if they'd do that.

We'll use this thread to get commitments and opinions. We have almost two months to go so we have time to decide. I'm not the ultimate decision maker in this. I'm just offering my opinion.

For me, it'll be my wife and I, possibly one other. The other will decide for sure when it gets a little closer.

If anyone has any other ideas for location, please suggest them here.

I think the sign up sheet idea is good idea and I will know later this week if I am going to make it, if so I could foward $$ to a handler to help reserve the room. I think if Doc's is the place and people are commited to going, tossing $ to the reserve, per person, to hold the room sound alright to me. Just an Idea so no one feels like they will take a hit individually - like Peg said about the 1st one.

Oh Peg I was talking about the kitchen not the rooms, Endzone is fine for snoring ( me, I would cab home from outlaw - Milford I would crash the area)

a poll may be needed? which establishment should the Patriot Planet Draft Day Party take place?

Outlaw?

Doc's?

other?

My aunts basement?

If anyone wants to offer up their home, we could have our own get together. I thought about it but I only have so much room on my floor for people to crash :p

Before we decide on location, let's get an idea of who will attend. The draft is April 29th. If we get a decent idea by the end of March, then we can sort out the location.

I'll start to keep a list and I'll periodically update it here.

You're a commitment-phobe. A "Definite Maybe"?? One of my favorite oxymorons. How long have you been using that one? ;)

I'm in and don't care where but do like the sound of this Doc's place. I'm definitely good for at least $50 in food and beverages.

When I was out on Thursday night, I met a guy that lives in Medway and we got talking about Patriots football, so I told him about the Draft Day Party that we are planning. When I mentioned to him that we might have it at Doc's, he was totally psyched and said to count him and at least one buddy in, if we had it there... He concurred with Brian's positive assessment of the place being a really good one for such a gathering... (Not that I doubted Brian's judgement, but just wanted to mention that yet another knew the lay-out of the place and could see it working well for us...)
And if I have calculated correctly, we only need at least 20 people to spend at least $25, in order to come up with the $500 minimum...
Given that we had 14 people last year, I think that getting 20 to commit this year, is a very realistic goal... (Afterall, we've already had Patti37, Mikie & Ras, "plus one(s)", indicated that they will be attending and those are above and beyond the past 14, which I am assuming will come again this year...)
So--I am up for Doc's, as long as we have at least 20 people (and that we can have them guarantee that they will dedicate a t.v. or two, to following the Draft coverage...)
What is our grand total of committed fans (not counting those in a mental facility!), that will be attending on 4/29?
I will DEFINITELY be there and will probably have a "plus one"... ;)
So, what say ye?...

.

I really enjoyed the Endzone Draft Party 2 years ago. It might have something to do with the $1 drafts and 25 cent chicken wings. It was pretty easy to buy a couple rounds, the TV was fine and on the Draft all day, we met other Pats fans (including a former player), it was conveinient and getting a room right there would be cheap if nessesary.
But I don't care where it is. I've got to have some minor surgery and just hope I'm around for it.

One more update. I was back at Docs Saturday afternoon for a burger and a couple of Sam Whites Spoke to the bartender a little bit about Draft Saturday.

First, they open at Noon, not 1:30. The website has the wrong hours posted.

She said that last year the place was pretty busy with quite a few Pats/NFL fans. A large group used the private room, but a lot of others were in the main area. There are two rooms. One has all leather furniture, is cheaper to use, but they don't allow food. So that one wouldn't work. The other is bigger and allows food and drink. However, she thought that they use a different menu for that room that's more geared towards function type food (deli platters, appetizers, etc.). She didn't know if the regular menu was available and the person in charge was off for the weekend.

She said we could reserve a large table in the main area. There was one table there with 16 chairs. My only concern to her was the ability to have the audio for the draft. The piped in audio is from the main screens. She didn't think that would be a problem since the Sox are not playing until later that night and there will probably be others there for the draft. But that's not a guarantee. The draft will definitely be on multiple screens, it's just a case of the audio. My guess is that it would be a case of popular demand. I'm pretty confident we would be the large majority there.

Right now, I'd be leaning towards reserving a large table rather than the room. We wouldn't have to worry about up front costs and the ability to mingle would definitely be there. If another group uses the room for the draft, there's very little stopping us from blending in with them.
