Hope this helps.

BTW, you can still get PC's with Windows 7. You just have to specify that when you order it.

No no no. I figured that crap out in ten minutes. I need to kill all the swipe/pointer/key crap. Dead.

Make my mousepad as useless as xp and I am a happy camper.

I heard that there's a free shell that you can download that will make it look like Windows 7. I don't know what it is or what it's called though.

Point is...there's hope.

Microsoft really shit the bed with this one. As an organized person with borderline OCD the Windows 8 homescreen makes me want to vommit. It makes no sense. Maybe I'm not doing enough acid.

So the idea is a common UI for PCs, laptops, tablets and mobile. But Windows 8 Tablets are flopping and Windows 8 phones aren't gaining any traction. And that's even after blowing $1,000,000,000 on marketing Win 8. So MS sacrifices the PC and laptop UI in an effort to gain commonness to it's tablet and mobile UI... markets in which it can't seem to be a player. Smart.

Okay, I just bought our son a laptop with Windows 8 on it for Christmas. I'm not looking forward to helping him figure this out.

If he's been dealing with Windows Vista for this long, Windows 8 may still seem like an improvement to him.

I will say this:

I'm giving my computer a total makeover and decided to upgrade the processor, buy more RAM, get an HDMI graphics card to watch the games with more than 2 pixels showing, and bought Windows 8 because I needed to wipe my computer and build it back up with how much it crashed (later found out I had 20 something trojans...stupid free iPads and hot singles ads)

Anyway I actually like it. YES it is a major change in layout, YES it was dizzying at times, but after playing around with it I actually got kind of used to it. I downloaded a couple of apps that look at your music collection and find artists in your collection who are doing shows nearby. Thought that was pretty cool. It was kind of a pain to figure out how to move my music from my old profile to my current one (having to switch to desktop view to open up explorer as opposed to the traditional Start>Computer) but overall it's manageable.

It had IE set as the default browser obviously and I think when it's set as the default in the latest version of IE it has a pretty cool layout, although I was not digging having to scroll sideways and the address bar not being readily visible. I use chrome now so it's basically just like it was in Windows 7.

I just hope we don't upgrade our work systems to Windows 8 any time when I'm still here because having to teach these old dogs the new tricks will require an insane amount of patience

LOL.

My dad told me he was considering the upgrade. I'd recommend to anyone on windows 7 not to do it if they're happy with what they have. I get bored easily so the upgrade and huge change is a nice change of scenery

Exactly. I don't want my desktop PC to look and act like a mobile phone. It's more powerful for a reason. Unfortunately MS seems to always be the biggest violator of the old adage "If it ain't broke don't fix it."
