TV apps

I'm starting to get into the tv apps such as Nextflix and i'm wondering how one downloads other apps on their tv's? I've got an older Samsung HD tv (2012) and it didn't come with Amazon (because it wasn't available at the time) and i want to download it to my tv but haven't been able to figure out how. Anyone have any insight on how to download apps without buying a Firestick or Roku to these tv's i'd like to hear it.

If you have a newer blu ray player you should be able to download any of those apps you want on it.

I have an incredible LG OLED TV but don't like the streaming operating system, WebOS.

A Roku Stick or box is the answer.

Tremendous system for apps.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

We have Roku, easy to install new apps. It will probably be worth investing in one of the plugin devices (Roku, Firestick, etc.) as they're fully up to date on technology compared to your '12 TV.

Yeah, forget the apps built in to your TV. They are slow and outdated. For less than 100 dollars buy one of these:

Roku
FireTV
AppleTV (or whatever they call their box)
Nvidia Shield.
If you have Comcast, you could also get the Flex.

They are all just a box you connect with an HDMI cable to your TV, and let you download all of the TV Viewing apps.

Is this because his TV is old (2012) or is it true even for newer TVs? Specifically, my TV was built in 2017. Would I be better of with Roku or FireTV than my built-in app?

Well, Roku is a very easy app streaming system to use. And very fast. It's my recomendation.

Very easy to manage. the others may all work the same.

With our Roku, we only had to create an account, register our 2 Rokus and now we can manage the apps from our computer. If we want a new one, just log into our account, download and it will get installed on to our devices.

Our TV was built in '11 and the Roku works great with it.

I cut the cord when I moved 3 years ago. I use the firestick with prime, netflix, pluto and for local channels I use Fitzy thru Locast. It costs 3 bucks a month for all the major locals. ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ME, COZI, PBS and a bunch of misc. other channels.

My Sony that's a bit under 2 years old is great with apps.

I will say I'm not a huge fan of the Firestick. We got the 1st generation and it just isn't good. Ours was never more than 5 feet from our router and the WiFi still struggled. I'm sure they've made vast improvements since then, but kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

It is almost always better to have an external box for it. TV manufacturers like to do all kinds of proprietary things to their "smart" TV interface. They don't spend a lot money on it, but it is an expected must have for new TVs.

That being said, if it works for you, there is no reason not to if you like the interface and the performance is okay. If you find performance degrading over the years, it may be time to move to an external device.

For me, Firestick 4K. I've gotten so involved with different apps and streaming services, like SportsTV, Kodi, of course, and others, I'm very close to just cutting the cord.

I was the same way, til I got the 4K. Whole new ballgame. Plus, Google how to speed it up. There are settings you want to change and even on the 2nd Generation, will make it much faster.

I recommend looking up Troypoint on YouTube. He's the best for detailed tutorials on how to unlock everything a Firestick is capable of

Big fan of Troypoint.

Watch his videos all the time. I could never get Kodi to give me anything. I now use Cinema APK for all my movies (i pay $7 per month for a debrid service that gets rid of buffering) and I subscribe to Area51 for sports and cable. As a bonus, it comes with porn. And not Skinemax porn. Porn.
