With the possibility that medicare care will be denied, less people will go without coverage. Economics tells us that incentives matter, thus the larger the safety net, the more willing the market players are to taking on additional risk. This is true for people who don't want to fork over money for health insurance and it's also true for Wall Street.

In historical practice doctors and hospitals very rarely turn patients away and are extremely willing to work with patients on payments.

Here's a recent post I had on this topic: http://www.patriotsplanet.com/BB/sho...&postcount=161

I thought it was illegal to turn away patients based on the ability to pay?

To be clear, I'm not saying it never happens, simply that it isn't supposed to happen.

In these parts, you can go into the ER for frigging anything and they have to treat you. You may never pay, but they have to treat you.

I know of a situation recently. It was an upper respiratory infection. The patient is fine but he has already moved to avoid the bill.

Generally life saving medical care must be given regardless of the ability to pay. After the patient is stabilized, he or she can be transferred to a hospital that takes charity cases. If someone is using an emergency room as their primary care physician for stuff like the common cold, they can be turned away but generally will not be due to fear of law suits.

And then there is this:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0212/73399.html

"So what, exactly, is the “or else” in the Obama administration’s contraception coverage mandate?

House Republicans asked the Congressional Research Service to look into it, and now they’re blasting out the answer they got. According to the research service, insurers and employers that do not comply with the contraception coverage rule could face federal fines of $100 per day per employee."

When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in compassion and humanitarian rhetoric—not just a flag.

What's really a sad state of affairs is that legislators actually have to use a ****ing research agency to find out what is essentially part of a bill. I mean, what the ****? Ever heard of plain ****ing english?

So I'm still trying to figure out why I need to pay money so others can engage in a voluntary act. All I can honestly understand is the argument of cost to society (birth control being less $ than babies). I don't buy the "War Against Women" and I don't understand the "I'm going to choose to do something, but I want you to pay for it" attitude.

I have my opinions, yes, but I'm completely open minded to the other side's argument. Just because something sounds good or right doesn't mean the federal government has the right to mandate it.

Where is my line of thinking going wrong?
