Ok, Al Toon with the throw for the TD, that's good enough...

But was that a Tony Eason game-winning drive I just saw?

There's a story in today's NY Times about the Chiefs.

In 2001-4, BB's first three most important "helpers" were Weis, Romeo and Pioli, I would guess.

He is now, effectively, doing the jobs of all three. Sure, he's got others assisting him, but it doesn't appear that anyone has the level of responsibility that any of those three seemed to have had.

There's something very not good about all that.

Eason was a pretty tough dude in college. Illinois w/Eason at QB was Alabama's opponent in Bear Bryant's final game. Bama's defense beat the crap out of him and picked him a bunch of times but he kept coming back again and again and made a game of it. I never suspected his toughness would be the issue coming out. I was shocked once his lack of physical toughness displayed itself in the NFL. I guess he filled his cup in the NCAA and that was that.

A guy I used to work with knew Eason back during his time here. He told me that Eason looked at the NFL as a job. He had no real passion for the game. He looked at it as a business opportunity. He said that he went into the NFL with the goal of earning (and investing) a lot of money in a short period of time and getting out with his health intact. From everything I've heard about him, he accomplished that.

I see the Pats have filled their 53-man squad by promoting Rich Ohrenberger and signing 2 guys I never heard of to the practice squad.

http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sp...tice-squaders/

This is actually kind of disappointing to me (not Ohrenberger) because I thought that when they had a new opening they would bring back Marques Murrell. I thought he was showing something and was hoping he would be back by now...

The Murrell absence is a puzzle for me too, but they seem to like Ninkovich, Cunningham is progressing nicely, and TBC ... is still a force from the dog house. It is what is it.

In a scene straight out of a bad action movie (or an awesome action movie, come to think of it), Jaguars WR Kassim Osgood had to jump out a second-floor window of a home he was visiting Monday night in order to flee a gun-wielding intruder.

Osgood In an almost unreal scenario – things like this happen in real life?!? – Osgood was pistol-whipped before escaping and the 19-year-old woman he was visiting traded gunfire with the alleged assaulter, police said.

The Florida Times-Union has the story, and it sounds like a crazy one.

Osgood and his companion were watching TV about 11:15 p.m., when a man, identified as 20-year-old Julian Armond Bartletto entered the room with his face covered by a plastic bag and began throwing Mackenzie Rae Putnal around the room by her hair and hitting her with his fists and his gun.

He also hit Osgood in the head with the gun, according to the police report.

Bartletto held the gun to the heads of Osgood and Putnal, and apparently, he hit her dog as well.

The conclusion of the story:

(T)hen he ordered the couple to sit on the floor, Putnal escaped down a hall and leaped over the balcony to the floor below, the report said.

The gunman ran after her, so Osgood jammed a chair under the game room door handle and jumped out a window to the lawn below, running to a neighbor’s house to call police. Meanwhile, Bartletto and Putnal confronted each other downstairs with guns. The woman targeted him with her laser sight before both shot at each other and missed.

Simply because a guy doesn't have a title doesn't mean he does nothing. I highly doubt BB would be comfortable being the acting DC if he didn't have confidence in BoB. We all have issues with NE's in-game adjustments of late, but they enter every game with a solid plan and, considering how much time BB invests on the other side, BoB must be a large contributor to the game plan.

On top of that, whoever is doing Pioli's job seems to be doing fine since NE's drafting his improved 10 fold and NE was the only team in the league to have every draft pick in house by the start of training camp this year.

The "BB is overworked" is a tired argument. It is clear that the young coaches are going through some growing pains, but would we expect any differently from a first or second year player?
