With the 4th overall pck in the 2008 NFL draft, the World Champion Patriots take...

I can hear the wailing and the whining and the knashing of teeth...even in my dreams... as the sucky 49ers keep sucking.

"Why were the allowed to keep this pick? Unfair!! Somebody do Something!"

:p Sweet

Cheers, BostonTim

We've still got 10 games to win till you can call them that. Well maybe not all 10 but certainly the last 3 and most of the others.

It's just an imagining. A dream. The wailing and whining is CONTINGENT on the dream coming true. I take nothing for granted. But the liberties taken were necessary to the effectiveness (if any) of the thread.

But the thread remains, primarily, an invitation for others to do a littlle dreaming. WHO might we think about getting, if we end up in the top 10?

Cheers, BostonTim

Sorry but: In spite of my evocative thread title, I take nothing for granted. And I virtually never predict anything. But I'm no kinda Karma guy. Or put it differently: even if there is such a thing as Karma, it doesn't involve what I say on this board having anything to do with who wins the Superbowl.

Cheers

If the Pats end up with a pick that high, would they even keep it?

Miguel has the Pats at 6.6 million under the 2008 cap right now without Samuel, Moss, Bruschi, Wilson, or Gay under contract.

Trade down looks highly likely.

i think we'll trade down, stockpile some picks, and hopefully take a linebacker.

I'm not that down on Maroney - I still think he is a very good RB and will only get better with experience.

I like the idea of the the tackle from Michigan, Long.

Either put him in at LT and move Light to RT, using Kaczur as a back-up, or starting him off at RT.

Best case would be to trade down, though, salaries wise.

McFadden would be cool, though. He's a beast.

Agreed. The Colts have always been the superstar team, giving lots of money to their triplets, and none to the defense. The Patriots spend a lot on their line and backups. Adding Moss to the mix has revised my appreciation of superstars. I wish we could afford more, but then I think of the late game surges against the Cowboys and Colts where the other guys seemed to run out of gas, while the Patriots still had quality guys in the "non skill" positions playing hard.

Last year, we improved big time picking up some proven stars. I don't know that I'd like to spend a lot of money just now on an unproven star. Trade down. Pull in some long term projects that can contribute right away on special teams. Save enough money that we have some chance to keep the stars we have, assuming they don't want to break the bank. Any who want to break the bank can walk.

To me, the important question is whether Moss will want to break the bank. The entire off season strategy will depend on that question.

And really, I'd rather focus on the moment. This season is going rather well. What was that saying? "One season at a time?" Something like that?
