So if a lineman's hand brushes the opponents face, the flag comes out.

Yet a running back can almost rip a defenders head off with a stiff arm and that's "great football!"

Same thing with helmet to helmet. That is never called on a play with a RB involved. Presumably because they drop their head so much, the vast majority of plays would draw a flag.

So let's all agree that player safety isn't the final decider on this.

BTW, Pats Pulpit had an article comparing various plays that resulted in suspension here.

I know everyone will be shocked, shocked, that the NFL isn't consistent in their response.
I realize this is out of the blue but think about it..
It's just like the road laws that are passed to protect us.
They get abused for fund-raising purposes.
Absolutely.

It's too bad.

In both Hernandez and Webster's case, we know with some degree of certainty that their lifestyle (slamming their heads into things for 20 years) causes CTE. Their other extra-curricular activities may have made it worse, but to claim they caused CTE is like a 30 year smoker blaming something else when they get lung cancer

TLDR: Avoid steroids, meth, and headbutting things.

I always think of hands to the face and stiff arms to the face mask. interesting isn't it, perfectly defines the NFL's rules.

I think it makes you aggressive, you hear stories of Meth'ed out feats of strength and stuff, add in roid rage and I can see them doing things that would later lead to progressive CTE.

Plus we really never have studies Meth head brains or Roid Noggins and CTE brains to see if there is a tie or not so we cant say there isn't one.

Unless taking meth causes you to bang your head on things repeatedly, it won't cause CTE. It may cause CTE like symptoms but that's not the same thing. Adding the two is definitely not a good idea.

Thanks Mikie.

Shouldnít be that difficult to round up a couple of thousand meth casualties and steroid abusers to compare grey matter.

But....

It may not suit the end game.

You have absolutely no idea whatsoever if meth deteriorates brain cells.

I remember from 7th grade health class being taught that each time you drink alcohol you kill brain cells. What in Godís name could meth be doing comparatively is anyoneís guess.

Slight side bar: I've heard doctors talk about studies done that suggest it may be possible to treat these kind of brain issues with mushrooms (the fun ones).

Be interesting to see if anything comes out of that.

Wait...

I thought Hernandez's drug of choice was Angel Dust (PCP) [of all things], not Meth.

I think you misunderstand what I'm saying.

CTE is a result of multiple sub-concussive hits over the course of a lifetime. Banging your head against things is how you get CTE.

Meth destroying the brain (which I won't dispute) isn't the same thing as meth causing CTE.

Either way, it's probably not a good for you. Especially if your brain is already off from smashing into things over and over.

By the way Dwight, if you think what I'm saying here is building to some trap argument where the Patriots are responsible for Hernandez's actions, rest easy. I might be an asshole, but not that kind of asshole.

Not at all. Iíd just like to see comparable brain scan images of CTE opposite hardcore drugs(meth,PCP) abuser images.

.
You speak the truth about meth.
A destroyed truck steering column and bloody holes in a wall from a kid that otherwise doesn't have a mean bone in his body are just a few examples I have 1st hand knowledge of.
So who knows?

http://www.methproject.org/answers/w...l#Brain-Damage

Meth interrupts dopamine & lowers pleasurable feelings especially regarding safety and security. Paranoia, depression, uninhibited aggression, delusions of persecution (people are out to get them), suicidal thoughts...

Brain scans of meth users show chemical changes rather than actual physical damage.
