True Genius at the Carom Billiard table. Or "my life as a wannabee".

I started out skipping classes to go to Nick's Pool hall in downtown Gloucester in the early sixties, eight ball first, then nine Ball then straight pool. After a couple of years at getting decent and winning a couple of Bucks I began to notice and wonder about and then admire the guys playing 3 Cushion Carom Billiards on the two 5 x 10 ft carom Billiard tables off in a corner of the hall. Simple game - your cue ball must hit both of the other 2 balls, but must also strike 3 rails before hitting the second ball.

Loved it almost from 1st glance. Took it up as my game. Got to be what I felt was "pretty good". Knew I was not, nor would I ever be great. Spent nevertheless, endless hours in my futile effort to achieve greatness. It was a game with a constant mixture of imagination and talent. Imagination conceives your shot and talent executes it.

I'm sure we've all at least dabbled in pool in some form and I'm sure many of us were "pretty good". Maybe Even awesomely good.

I thought I was extremely good at conceptualizing shots and just decent at best in execution. My big run was thirteen in a row. I was very proud of that as a personnal best. Countless have done much better.

I stumbled on you tube the other day on a mind altering 3-cushion "trick shot" compilation that presents a staggering constant combination of insane conceptualization and inconceivably extraordinary cue skills.

If you like or have liked pool in any form, I believe this will stagger your mind. I thought of "Bend it like Beckham" for some reason. Imagine what goes on in these players minds. Anyway, enjoy if you would.

What? No holes for sinking the ball?

Incredible though

Indeed. Though I ought to point out that these shots don't happen in a real game. These guys work all day. day in and day out creating these masterpieces. Starting with a very general conception of a possibility followed by countless hours of practice, adjustments and endless repetition until they master the exact stroke and ball speed and are ready to bring it public.

But it still boggles my mind.

Cheers

Oh. I thought that was the game. Set the balls up and execute the shot. Point if you succeed. Crap if you donít.
