Passports

Going on a cruise in July and the travel agent recommended we all get passports. I'm finding the Post Office a bit chaotic.

Is there a better way?

Not from recent personal experience, but a quick search leads me to believe it has to be a Post Office.
If you qualify for a renewal, it can be done by mail.

Leaving for Italy to work on my dig in 48 hours; never had a problem getting the passport through the PO.

We went to Stamford for our original passport you can make an appointment.
Stay away from Stratford post office they're real pains the only place we've ever had a problem.
Monroe was easy just have to be in line by 3 we got my granddaughters there.
Shelton was really easy during the day we got my other granddaughters when she was 1 they were great.

Danbury has a passport fair next weekend.

Hope it helps.

For many cruises, passports are mandatory, not recommended. Last got mine in 2010 and will be due in 2020, but have never had an issue before.

Is going to the post Office mandatory up there? We got our passports a couple years ago and all we did was get our photos taken at Walgreens then took those to a dept at the State Attorny’s office. Passports came in the mail a couple weeks later.

This is what we did last month when our son turned 16. Printed out the forms filled them out, went to the PO, did the picture there and 2 weeks later, Voila!

No you can go to Stamford or Hartford direct offices if you need your passport ASAP. But basically the post office does the same thing and is closer for most. The post office will even take your picture hand over the required documents pay the fee and they take it from there. Passport comes in the mail a few weeks later.

Started a job in 2012 and on the first day they said, we need you to go to Germany next week. Got my passport in a single day at the Federal Building down next to the Garden. Was there when they opened, did the forms and pictures and stuff. Left and had to go back at 4:30 and pick up the passport. Hassle going into Boston twice in the same day, but I woke up without one and went to sleep with one. Cost about 100 bucks too, for the expedite.
