The moment of truth is coming soon.

There has been all kinds of speculation regarding Butler and Jimmy G for the last 3 months. On Friday, Butler will have to sign his tender if there is going to be a trade. In 10 days is the 1st round of the draft.

Let's take Butler first. I can't see NO making the trade. Right now they have $7 mil in cap space, barely enough to sign their draft picks. they will have to restructure or cut players to get the money that Butler wants. This draft class has many good CB's. Butler has proven he is a top 10 NFL CB. But it's going to take some major shifting of cap money to sign him. And, the Patriots won't trade him for just #32. They will want more than that.

My take: Butler is not traded to NO. Maybe some other team steps up and have the cap space and are willing to give up better draft picks. But right now I think butler stays a Patriot.

Now let's take Jimmy G. The Browns have to know that there is not a QB in this class that can start on day one. Some of them could be starters given a year or 2. It looks like it will probably take the #12 pick this year and the Browns 1st round pick in 2018. The Browns have no QB and the Browns fans are getting sick of not having one.

If that is the final offer from the Browns, the Patriots would be foolish not to take it. Unless TFB is going to retire after this year, and the Patriots know that, I can't see the Patriots hanging on to Jimmy this year. Also, Jimmy wants to play. Why keep a guy who has become unhappy and does not see the things changing even in the 2018 season? Doesn't make sense at all.

My take: The Patriots will trade Jimmy to the Browns but it may be while the Browns are on the clock at #12.

I agree. I think Butler stays. I do wonder if he does wait to sign his tender to ensure he is back with the Pats and not traded somewhere especially if NOs is off the table.

I am not sure about Jimmy G. I think if the Browns offer two 1's than I hope Bill takes it but many reports are saying he wants to keep him this season for Brady's back up given Brady is 40. But I agree that if Brady is playing in 2018 as the starter then you absolutely move Jimmy now if it is a big haul as you suggest.

I did not realize that NO did not have the cap room for MB. That makes me happy.
I'm on record as saying I think it would be very fiscally unwise for the Pats to trade JG for any reason or anything, so I hope he isn't.

If the Patriots keep JG than we know all we need to know about Brissett.

I think there is going to be all sorts of movement on draft day that will boggle our minds. They'll probably make a run on some mid-major college DBs this year, trade JG for far less than everyone thinks, and do something crazy with the picks they get like trade for Richard Sherman.

No matter what, it will be fun. They will get a C- grade from all the experts, then prove them all wrong yet again.

I don't expect Butler or Garoppolo to be traded away this season. Don't know who is saying Jimmy G is unhappy. Seen a little comparison to Aaron Rodgers situation behind Favre. Looks like Rodgers came out ok from that.
Butler may not be asking as much as many think. His agent may be the issue here. He has earned a good long term contract offer. I have not seen anything about the Patriots offer as of yet. I do know that BB likes the guy and Kraft has already spoken about wanting to keep him. I just don't buy into most of the media hype till I see something happening. Right now there doesn't seem to be anything.

Butler should sign his tender or risk getting < $1M for 2017. After he signs he may get traded if a good enough offer comes in. IF an offer comes in I would expect BB to then see how much it would take to get Sherman before making the trade. If it takes too much to get Sherman, keep Butler. BB will do what's best so IBIT.

I'd be very surprised if JG is traded this year.

We don't really have any say in the matter. Whether Butler and/or Garappolo is traded will not affect whether trying to access this site with an apple device will generate a popup. I'm content to wait.

We could map out each of the four scenarios (neither goes, Malcolm goes but Jimmy stays, Jimmy stays but Malcolm goes, or both go), and then live our lives according to each alternate reality, virtually simultaneously, but that seems pointless. I think it's better to wait to see how events unfold, and then follow the season accordingly. Really regardless of which scenario is implemented, I am going to be a fan of the team.

You can absolutely bank this.
When people ask me why I watch the whole draft even if my team isn't involved until day 2-3, I just smile.

I doubt very much the that the browns give up two first round picks. Not going to happen imo. I honestly think they will go with what they have because the real qb they want won't be coming out until next year.

Meh. Who knows. So many reports out there. The Browns have a bazillion picks this year and next year. And they really like Jimmy a lot and want him now.

Who is the QB they want next year?

I knew I should have put up a pole. Then we would have a say in the matter. But, it's too late now, I guess.

Butler is holding out hope for an offer sheet by Friday. I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign his tender shortly after that falls through.

This is a bad year (because of the talent depth in the draft)to be an RFA CB, even one with the skills of Butler.
