Trade Butler and bring in McCourty's brother so his mom can wear one shirt.

If the Saints give #32 and #103, then the Patriots give Butler and 183, that makes more sense.

It's still going to be interesting to see how the Saints get the cap space to sign Butler.

For just the 32, no. If they throw in a 2nd or 3rd, yes.

So if they make the trade, it will boil down to the Pats giving up one year of Butler for about $4 mil and getting 2 years of Cooks for about $8 mil.

Not bad, give up an UDFA in exchange for a mid first-round pick. That's really working the draft. Wish we could do this more often.

Yes and also gaining four years of age. And this deal if it does happen is maybe the most symbolic of why the Pats have been on top for so long. They work the system like no other team to their favor.

Still am saying I don't see Jimmy G or Butler getting traded this year.
Also believe Blount will eventually resign but not until right before the draft. If the Patriots do take a shot at a RB late I could see it being James Conner.

From http://walterfootball.com
James Conner, RB, Pittsburgh
Height: 6-1. Weight: 233. Arm: 31.25. Hand: 9.88.
40 Time: 4.65.
Projected Round (2017): 4-6.
4/8/17: In 2016, Conner ran for 1,092 yards with an average of 5.1 yards per carry carries with 16 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 302 yards with four scores. Conner ran slowly at the combine, but that was expected for the power back.

It was a triumph for Conner to return to the field and find the end zone as much as he did in 2016; however, he doesn't look like quite the same player as he was before his knee injury and his victory over cancer. Sources said it may have been in Conner's best interest to play one more year of college football and get all the way back before going into the 2018 NFL Draft, but he decided to enter the 2017 NFL Draft.

I don't spend much time quoting media types, but Charley Casserly from NFL network says as a starting point the Patriots should get two 1s and another high pick for Jimmy Garoppolo. Sounds good.

I would prefer they keep him as insurance for this season and with an eye toward the future.

As far as Butler is concerned. Keep him. He is a good player. At the end of the season let him test FA. If a deal can be struck, fine and dandy. If not and he signs with another team, a third round compensatory pick would be waiting.

For what it's worth ... not sure how much I trust LaCanfora but I tend to believe this is true as I think the Saints are trying to low ball given Butler is 27 and wants to get paid and get the Pats to take their second round pick. I hope Bill stands firm for #32 or no deal.

Jason La Canfora ✔ @JasonLaCanfora
Saints and Pats expect to continue exploring a Malcolm Butler trade but simply might not be able to agree on trade compensation...

I really just want Butler to stay. I think we would get a great year out of him being his contract year and have a secondary that rivals 2014. Heck, we could still bring Revis back as each day that passes he gets cheaper and cheaper.

Really do not see any good reason to bring Revis back. The guy has shown he is done lost speed and athleticism spells need to retire.

You may be right but there is a chance that he was just dogging it last year because he was playing for the Jests.

No if you have watched him at all you will see there is no way he was dogging it.
